just took at boar to Olds sale just like him and he sold for a dollar

That's too bad. Keep him away from females and feed him grass for a few months, and the chops and shoulders are really good, and the hams and bellies make great sausage.

Somebody gave us a few cuts from some old boar one time. He got to be about 400 lbs. before they could catch and have him butchered. Never Again .

Looks like a tamworth/large black cross to these eyes. I would shoot him, try a sample of the back fat before I fully skinned him out. I don’t care for the taste of taint myself... some boars get it some don’t.

We had the same experience. Neighbor had a hog barn and owed us a favor so he gave us a bunch of pork. First roast we cooked stunk up our old trailer so bad that the mice pulled out. The dogs got the rest of it.

When I shoot feral pigs in TX, any boars over about 60lbs get left for the buzzards. I know some breeds don't stink, but I won't chance it.

400lbs is just a wee piggy. My brother has got a Tamworth boar that weighs in around 700lbs....maybe more. To be any good for sausage he's gotta shed his knackers and the only way to do that now would be to tranq him.

Yes, longs there is some food which from your picture looks like there will be. It will find shelter when it gets cold.
