Default Anyone use artificial structure for attracting fish while ice fishing?

I’m wondering if anyone has tried artificial structure presentation.

I picked up some artificial Christmas garland. Plan is to May 5 or so six foot long lengths. Weight one end and attach the top end to a piece of braid and then to a float at the surface.

Put this down one hole. Fish down another hole spaced. 4 or five feet away to target perch.

Going to be an experiment on catch rates for perch at lake Sundance. We have much larger perch now but fewer. Found that the longer I anchored this summer the more perch we caught.

There are products to buy out there. Curious what people have tried.

I've always thought about it but never tried it. Seems like it would work.

Chip Leer says they work in this video:

Would love to hear how it turns out for you.

Reel weeds is very expensive. Looks realistic. Won’t ship to Canada.

I was thinking perch aren’t rocket scientists but they are inquisitive so cheap Christmas garland should be a great choice.

I will be trying it. I have 150 feet of cheap garland. Just need braid, weight and a float.

Should be a fun test. Need to find those string clips and find an old pool noodle.

Default Try plastic aquarium plants

I have a bunch of plastic aquarium plants zip tied to the cable of my ice fishing camera. I have it from the camera and up the cable about 4 feet. Not sure if it helps any but it definitely can't hurt any.

I bought the artificial weed bed and messed with it maybe 10 times. Not once did it attract any fish. I was targeting perch but no luck. Never saw any fish on the camera.

Tried selling them on kijiji but no takers so they made their way to the dump

Make your own for experimental sake but do not waste your money on buying any.

Good to know. I will be skeptical but my investment is low.

What type did you use? How high?

I find perch are very inquisitive. Maybe given our lake is flat bottomed and man made and perch are more spread out...maybe they will react better.

Lowering a plastic log with a skull and treasure chest attached to it really works well.

The fish seem to congregate all around it and wait for a tasty hook er, a, treat to drop down.

How about a video screen with minnows and leeches on it?

I couldn't help being a smart *****.

The fish read made in china on your weed bed and thought they better stay away and not catch covid. They know they are out of masks and cant keep their mouth’s shut
