Default Early ice brookie fun

Probably the earliest ice fishing for me yet. Lots of ice North of Edmonton. About 5-6 inches.

Managed to land quite a few brookies. All sight fishing. It's been awhile since I've tried for early ice brookies. Crazy fast and hard hitting. Some decent ones caught a lost a real big one at the hole - by far the biggest one. Kept 3 to see how they eat and hoping they are okay.

Nice first day out!

Decent fish. 10 inch hole.

How did they eat? I tried a few last year from a central lake and found them a little "earthy". Not inedible but definitely not perch.

Yeah, that is why I only took 3. Hoping it will be okay as it has been years, and years, since I've kept a central lake brookie or any central lake trout.
Didn't fry them up yet but they will be for supper tomorrow. Here is to hoping!

Thanks! I hope to get some of the ole greasy whites this season. Have a couple of new lakes as well that caught my attention.

Hope your season is a good one!

Thanks man. I hope you have a truly great season! I still have 4 A class walleye tags for Pigeon - 2 for me and 2 for the wife. Let the winter hunt begin

Snap ... nice fat Brookies, the Mrs says they taste much better than Bow's, she won't eat another Bow, says they taste like mud. We released all our fish on Saturday, couldn't bring myself to kill any of those colourful males. Going to a different trout lake this weekend, see if it produces.

Cheers

D.
