Default Old habits

It has been more than 30 years since I have had a standard transmission vehicle, but some times I still instinctively grab for the stick and my foot can`t find the clutch.

I have had GMC trucks with the column shift - my Ford F150, which I have had now for about 3 years has the gear shift on the console.

I still get in turn the key and grab for the gear shift at the column and grab open air - usually 1-2 swipes before I realize it's not there !!!!

lol.

Been driving a 6 speed Fusion for a couple years as my daily driver. Get in my F250 and the left foot is looking for a clutch pedal.

I alternate between three vehicles- a standard sedan, an SUV with console shift and a pickup with a column shift - I can completely relate to the “waving the hand everywhere” when switching from one to the other.

I bought a three on the tree car last summer and put a bunch of miles on it. Now I get in my F150 and sometimes I grab that invisible column shifter lol.

My favourite shifter of all in a modern vehicle is the dodge knob where you jump in and just give it a twist, I like it better than a console shifter. Except, I'm not a fan of paddle shifters and I like the up/down button on my F150 shifter for when I'm towing and want to grab a lower gear.

Pushing my foot through an imaginary clutch gets me every once in a while.

One that messes my up is how hard I hit the brake pedal in my car after I've been driving my truck for a few days.

After years of owning single cab trucks I bought my first crew cab. There was a couple of times I found myself sitting in the back seat wondering where the steering wheel went.

A standard transmission keeps the millenials from borrowing your truck.

We put a new modular home on the farm a few years ago. I’m still trying to turn lights on where there isn’t a switch. And get up in the middle of the night and walk into the closet to use the bathroom. ( I stop short of doing my business there).

I learned how to drive on a 1956 International 3/4 ton.

Drove many 3 on the trees as well. I owned my last 4 speed car in 1979 then I found out how a TH400 or TH350 could be built for high performance.
Never looked back.
