Now that’s a good sized moose!
Should be some awesome meat for the year.
Great shooting and congrats

Wait.... it wasn’t a magnum with a mono or bonded and it still died? Say it ain’t so

I threw the expanded bullet on the powder scale this morning.
115gr.
That’s 82.5% weight retention!

No guts needed, just a bit of a sense of community and sharing, which this place should be about, but sadly seems to be a thing of the past, some days.

First time I saw this thread, or at least actually read it was today. GREAT thread Dick. A bit of work went into doing this but it makes a really good story. Will have to follow next years from the get go.

Shot fired 16:00!

This time the Pit Boss connected on his buck.

He had gotten off work early today, and headed out to the “Lease blind”.

He’s sat this blind exclusively since the 16th, where he witnessed his “target” buck do some adult action with a doe. Sad part was the action occurred across the fence on the adjoining property, where we don’t have permission.

He was determined to take this buck, and every opportunity he had to hunt, he spent at that blind.

This afternoon he could hear a buck grunting in the bush across the fence(<100 yds) he responded with a couple short grunts on his grunt tube, and then he could see deer legs moving towards him. He had to glass very hard to see any antlers, but finally the buck gave him the view he needed, it was “the” buck.
He gave a couple more soft grunts and the buck came hard and fast.

He readied his rifle and as the buck cleared the fence he gave a vocal grunt to freeze him, and the buck did exactly that, turning quarter on, at about 30 yds.
The Pit Boss levelled his crosshairs on the bucks near side shoulder, and sent a 130gr. Accubond from his .260 Rem on its way. The buck jumped like a bronc, favouring his near side shoulder, spun around and took a death leap, fell hard, tried to get up, and fell for its last time.

After that.........

I wasn’t even there to help with the gutting and loading as I was, over at Onoway dropping off the daughters moose at the butcher.

He wrangled that deer, found a friend to come help him, and we both got back home about the same time.

I did find a bunch of these bullets and did some reading up on it and the company says at least 72 percent retention .so that bullet that killed the moose did even better.

Very nice thread to read and the best is to see a family all enjoying it together.

That in it's self is nice to see, plus the hunting all went well, great Job Dick.

ALL THE BEST
