Great news for all Edmontonians
Mayor Mc Bikelane is not seeking reelection, GREAT NEWS!!
Now maybe someone will fix our roads?
https://edmontonsun.com/news/local-n...ions_top_pages
This is BY FAR the best news I've heard in 2020, the only good news actually.
Make no mistake, he would of been voted in again despite his record.
Again, never underestimate the stupidity of the voter.
GOOD RIDDANCE!!

Just remember, he was elected, so not everyone will be happy about this.

Be careful of what you wish for.
Change can be good, but....It can get worse.
If you really care, work for a candidate that offers something you want, and is electable.
Second point - a Mayor is only one vote on council. Obviously, there is a majority that accepted/promoted the current mayor's policies.

I was smiling throughout my whole road run for work today as I heard it on ched. Bye bye Donny. I voted for you the first time, you lost it by the second term. With him out, there will be a lot of challengers come out of the wood work. Gonna be a good run up to the civic election this time.
Wonder what political party him and Jespo will show up in.

Good Riddance
Hope the voters ( please God help us all out here ) realize that Liberal millennials cannot run their fingers up their nose let alone lead.
Need people that can prioritize needs ( not wants ) and budget for them.
Time to stop consulting all this crap out. You want to build our LRT or next ref centre? Great bring your proposal and price tag.
Stop coddling the idiots ( citizens and employees ) maintain an attractive functional work force.
Build Funniculars and bike lanes with surplus money when that happens
Fingers crossed for Edmonton. Alberta and Canada.

I haven't paid too much attention to Edmonton politics since I left that town, bit I seem to recall Mike Nickel being a fairly reasonable sounding guy.
But I guess when your are an aldermen in a town with people like Micheal Phair, and Tooker Gomberg, you tend to look more reasonable.

I hope Mike Nickel will be the next mayor. He was against bike lanes, stupid LRt and fiscally conservative. We will need to vote out the majority of the city counsellors too. Most of them are useless...

Agree. Jon Dziadyk is my rep and so far he seems pretty decent.

In the heart of Conservative country. Bizarre how that happens.
Iveson fooled most of us the first go-round but he quickly showed his stripes and should of got punted two elections ago, not givin two more mandates.
A $24 Million dollar Funicular, in a down economy? With the roads crumbling the way they are? Ugh How many millions on bike lanes, in a winter city?
Most of our current council members hate anything with a combustion engine, especially personal vehicles and motorcycles.

Obviously this is not great news for all Edmontonian's, when he was first elected in 2013 he garnered 62% of the vote when he was re-elected in 2017 he garnered 72.5% of the vote, that tells me that the people of Edmonton liked what he was doing.
The people that he pandered to obviously make up a much great portion of the population than those he didn't, look for much the same now, if you don't pander to special groups and millennials you will not get elected, how do you think the turd got elected twice ????
Just saying.

That dummy was often stirring the pot unnecessarily about The Eskimos name, he's a big social justice warrior. Eskies brass said it's going to cost multi millions of dollars to change the name. In a league where every dollar counts, that's how they are choosing to spend their money. They won't see any more of mine. I could see the outcry over The Redskins, but. Eskimos? Means eater of raw meat, GASP! Those 3 people fighting it will be very pleased.
He's constantly going off about this "Vision Zero", he thinks it's realistic to expect zero fatalities and zero injury accidents in the next few years.
The only way to accomplish that would be to ban vehicles wholesale, which he would love nothing more since he HATES all motor vehicles.
He thinks more photo radar will accomplish that instead of going after the BAD drivers, he goes after the low hanging fruit.

Anyone can be mayor of Edmonton.
You just need to give the people a reason to come out and vote (because not many do).
I think a guy could run on an "abolish photo radar" mandate, and he's be elected in a landslide.

The reason for the bike lanes - his wife likes biking! Heard that from the person who knows his family personally...
Another huge waste of money - the idiotic Art budget... like the giant balls by the bridge, moronic sculptures in a dog park and painting on a bus depot that nobody can see....
Lowering the speed limits to 40 in a residential areas and down to 30 around schools and parks/playgrounds.... I am all for safety but that is ridiculous! In the dead of the winter, there is nobody at these playgrounds after dark.... except cops giving out tickets...

If Knack runs and is elected we'll long for the days of Jan Reimer and Gomberg.

The Liberas did just that in BC in '01, and won by a landslide.
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...rticle4150046/
If any contender wants to throw all that money away they would also win by a landslide.
I'm not against photo radar, I am against how it's being abused currently. Put it in residential where speeding WILL kill someone. Going ten owner on the Tony-H is NOT a big deal. Many E-Town roads have unrealistically low speed limits.

I was told she is the head of some cycling association here in town, conflict of interest much?
Absolutely agree on other points.

Had one in my old neighbourhood... Wife took our dog for a walk at night time, the idiot showed up from behind the bush when the dog was taking a poop and opened his coat... Wife started to laugh hysterically pointing her finger at his winny... Never was seen again... That was probably 20 years ago...

You need to cheer up pal. This is not a political thread. City officials are not politicians but rather the public servants.
