Default Pembina Saturday

So I've been hearing about this mythical Pembina River where a guy can actually keep a couple walleye for a long time, but never seemed to manage to make my way over to check it out.

Well, that finally changed yesterday when I headed out with buckmaster and buckmasterjr to try to slay some walleye. We rolled out around 6am and arrived at the river shortly after 7, got our gear together and walked down to the water. The sun was just coming out and there was a mist over the river...very neat to see. Also, the scenery out there is very nice

First off I must say I was blown away by just how clean the water in this river is, which is a good thing since we were wading and there were a lot of big boulders just waiting to be tripped on if you couldn't see. We were fishing near a little trib that was bringing in muddy water, and there was a very distinct line where the two waters met, and walking through the muddy stuff was sketchy business indeed!

So we spent the morning exploring around the area, chucking jigs at the edge of the dirty water (and sacrificing a few to the boulders) and pulling in quite a few walleye...sadly none were big enough to keep, but there were more than enough fish there to keep us entertained for the morning. We ended up calling it quits around 12:30 and we were back on the road home by 1.

More pics coming...

Aaaaaaaand now the fish

Check out the pattern on this one. After I released it, it swam a few feet away and just hung out in front of a rock, and didn't seemed to be bothered that I was so close, so I took the opportunity to grab a couple underwater shots

And here's a few more random little guys from the day

Wasn't the provincial walleye record out of the Pembina at one point in time?

We can discuss this honey hole you speak of on Wednesday!

Nice pics, and the patterns on those walleye are spectacular. I've also heard many stories of the glory of the Pembina but have yet to make my way out on it.

Nice report. What camera is that for underwater shots? I prefer fishing further upstream....but that looks like a nice area. Must get busy in camping season.

Got any pics of buckmaster after he went under? Hahahaha

Nice shots on the eyes. The Mcleod is another river where you can keep a couple fish if they are big enough. We have managed to keep a few over the years there but nothing this year....yet.

Looks like a good morning. Congrats.

Sad thing is, that river is 1/2 mile from my place and I have only fished it once about 6 years ago. May have to head down to the ole spot and give it a go here soon.

I love that place. I've caught one keeper in three trips.. It was my first time eating walleye, very tasty! I can't wait to go back!

The camera is just a cheapie...Nikon Coolpix S30. About $120 at the Wal. It takes decent enough pics for throwing up on the forum, and it's stood up to a fair amount of schit and abuse so far, so I'm happy with it

Sadly no pics of buckmaster after he bit it

Cool, that might be worth investigating

That being said I C&R for the most part and catching fish to keep is a pretty rare thing for me (except for early ice trout!) so I'm not usually on the mission for a keeper. The odd time that I do keep something it's kind of a treat and more often than not ends up being a shore lunch and never makes it home.

Seriously?!

Well if you're ever headed down and feel like some company let me know and I'll see if I can swing out that way.

Of course it is getting close to that really good time at Wab now too...

Good times for sure...thanks for bringing me out there

I'll definitely do my best to make it out there with you guys a few more times this season, though this weekend is looking kinda sketchy now...

@ Oreos

I don't have anything that dives really deep right now...maybe 8-10' deep max...gonna have to do some shopping!

Trolling some other cranks with a slip sinker could probably make some stuff happen too though...

You're welcome?

Definitely a great day out there, and I look forward to doing it again

I didn't hook any clams, but saw plenty of shells...most were empty but a few looked like there was somebody home.

You should try where the Pembina and Athabasca meet some time.
