Default Calgary Landmark Gone

While I was not surprised to see another construction site in Calgary, I was temporarily taken aback by the buildings removed to make way for whatever's going up; The French Maid is gone.... As well as the building to it's north that housed Don Quixote's. I saw this just last week. Old news to some I'm sure, but interesting to note. The project had Caddilac Fairview signage, which has me wondering if it's a mall, or if CF also does office commercial.

Ah but for those of us in the construction industry it means more work and therefore more $$$. Cant be all bad, I'm excited to see it go to Tender.

CF is throwing up another tower on the old Maid site. I'm across the street at Jamieson Place these days watching it all take place. The rest of the Eau Claire is next on the removal list.

And here it is:

It's nice to see the developers have confidence and the bankers have loosened the purse strings to bring more projects online. The Bow is just opening and now we have a crane back up at Eighth Avenue place (right over the old Cowboys), the second tower already a number of stories underway, and this 36-story structure, a crane just went up before Stampede for another second phase condo tower across from the Bernard Callebaut factory, and then there's advertising for that condo directly north of Cowboys Casino at the stampede grounds, which is supposed to be the tallest residential tower in western Canada. Jobs, jobs, jobs. This is a good thing.

I used to look after that property at one time was always a good place to go for a streak sandwich & expensive draught beer. Entertainment was always good as well

The company that put in my quartz countertops said they put in a bunch at the new 'Maid' location. I'm forgetting the new name, but it's location in a building on 9th Ave that formerly housed a religious bookstore has a certain amount of irony

The new french maid is now called "Boudoir Rouge". Not a bad place, they classed it up a bit and the food at lunchtime is pretty good.

Same here.

I hadn't been to either for almost 10 years, though.

And from Edmonton, The old Cromdale Hotel is coming down.

Where are all those cockroaches going to go? Where are the cruelty to animal folks when you really need them?
