Default Winchester Model 1894 Pre-64

What is the best way to look for a mint pre-64 Winchester 94 carbine .30-30, and what would be a realistic price for one?

Just starting my search.

I am wondering the same thing as OP. How about posting the info in this thread for future reference?

Bought a minty 1957 model off a friend for his asking price of $450 which is about the going rate. I really like it.

There are a lot of pre 64 advertised on here and Gunnutz, almost all of the adds specify if they are pre 64s. Many of the larger retailers like Epps and Globe have pre 64s for sale. You will see asking prices anywhere from 250 to $1000, depending on condition. A new 94 is about $1,100 so you judge what you want to pay for one at least 50 years old.

Finding one in real good shape is the hard part, lots of these guns have been carried a lot and the bluing, and or wood show it. New blue job is $200 and a new set of wood is $100. As long as the bore is in good shape and the action is tight, it is not too expensive to make them look brand new.

I picked one up from Epps last year in 32 Special and great shape with a Lyman receiver sight in great shape. Be a bit patient and expect to pay +/- $500, $550 delivered. Epps treated me great and the rifle was as described.

Many are in great shape and they come up often. I suspect mine lived in a closet and may never have been hunted. That is for a standard issue 94 hunting rifle.

The less common models, long barrelled rifles, genuine saddle ring carbines, octagon barrels, and pre-ww2 can be real pricey and a guy can get scammed. Check it out here or gunnutz.

I did find a mint late 50's 94 in .32 Special from an Alberta collector, for $600. I am very happy with it.

Check the Edmonton and area gun shows but know your pricing.

You will really like your rifle. 32 Special is a bit interesting. An outstanding deer cartridge and rifle combo for a hunter.
