80 gr. Hornady gmx in .243 on deer

Just wondering if anyone has hunted deer with the hornady gmx, 80gr. in a .243 winchester. I am just wondering if anyone has had real life experience with them on deer and how they performed. This is not a question as to whether the .243 is adequate for deer, just looking to see if anyone has had experience with the aforementioned bullet on deer or pronghorn.
Would be interested to know if they were accurate, etc, and what type of expansion to expect.

Shot quite a few deer out of my tikka t3 shooting the 80 grain GMX. Work like any other deer bullet should, great expansion, great accuracy out of factory ammo. I think only one was a follow up shot. A few have been runners with some bang flops. I've had the same happen with my 7mm too.

Good bullet, no issues.

Flawless rounds. I only have one Centerfire rifle my 243 it's my yote gun and big game rifle. I have filled my tags with the 80 gr gmx and dropped A two year old bull moose last season. With shot placement I have min pelt damage and good expansion. On whitetails and one moose

This is good news on the 80gr. GMX's. I am teaching a young shooter to reload his own .243 ammo and this is the bullet that I've selected after some discussions with Flys Etc. staff. May I inquire as to which powder works well? I'm thinking IMR4831. His rifle is a Savage 11 package gun. I've already upgraded his trigger to an SAV1, scope will be next until he earns the funds.

Edit: one other question regarding seating depth. Do these monometals prefer a large jump to lands such as the Barnes bullets?

Gitrdun, what about 4198 - h or imr. My preference is h. Kind of a goldilocks powder in anything I've loaded from .204 to 45-70. ... haven't loaded for .243 though.

Gitr' I know it's as rare as hens teeth, but I was loading the 80 gr GMX last winter with RL 15 and a Wlr primer all Remmy brass. Had some very decent groups and put down a couple yodel dogs with them. Haven't used them on anything else. I kept a couple fired into water jugs somewhere but I'd have to go digging to find them. Oh OAL was to fit in a Remmy detached mag so yep lots of jump.

H4831 has mine grouping under 3/4" consistently
46.5 grains powder, 80grain gmx, 3300 fps

I want the hormady gmx to work.

I have tried it in 22, 24, 28.30.and375...

But only in the powders I had, primers were not an issue.

The only projectiles I could use in confident were .28 and .375.

But this was from my results on what I had.

I truly wanted the 24 to work but could not get what I wanted.

So if you have success I would use your feed back.

@ Purgatory.sv: So far I've had him sort his brass (I bought him a bag of fired brass @ the DV rodeo). Dies have arrived courtesy of Dick284 (thanks Richard). He disassembled the dies and cleaned them in the ultrasonic cleaner. I had him anneal the necks since we don't know how many firing. He's cleaned primer pockets, tumbled and checked COAL. We're taking baby steps as I go through it with him in details. Checking my Hornady manual and my powder stock, I'll get him started load developing with IMR4831. I'll keep you posted on results. The young man also drew a 310 cow elk, his grandpa's 30-06 Husky will be put to the test for that tag.

Where do you find imr 4831. I couldn't find any so I went to win 760. The imr product is supposed to be better for 90gr in .243.

I have it in stock. Purchased a lot of various powders when supplies were good. I just called Flys Etc. to check on your behalf and surprisingly, they don't have any either. Don't know where else to suggest at this time.
