Default Iced some Rainbows today

Went out today with Pikestriker and we caught these rainbows on our dugout. Had to work hard to get them. We noticed there was lots of bugs and fresh water shrimp, what are guys using to over come this abundance of feed.

Very nice fish. Looks like there must be a lot of feed for them. They look fat and happy.

When there is an abundant supply of shrimp I usually use a dark leech pattern. Either black or red or a combination of both. Something totally different than what they have been seeing. It doesn't have to be a huge leech. You can use a ballanced leech pattern that is size 10. It will give the fish something different. Certainly worth a try.

We found that worms become th "go-to " bait when too much other free swimming stuff like boatmen and shrimp are around....hope this helps !

Try some trout fly patterns of what's in your dugout. Used to be the only way i could catch them from ours.

Just curious, do you have to follow provincial regulations when your fishing a privately stocked pond? For example since its your pond, can you use barbed hooks? I know they wouldn't really be able to enforce it but im just curious what the "technical" rules about it are.

Nice 'bows BTW

Dogfish match the hatch or match what is in their stomach .. so right now shrimp color wire worms or backswimmer type and this is key make it look like the bug swimming or falling as you can bring it up 3 to 4 ft and let it drop.. hope that helps

Food for Thought
David

very nice Rainbows

We pinch our barbs to aid in release and hopefully help with mortality.

No we have full time aeration and it is 27 feet deep. The only time we have trouble is when there were too many trout and the weeds were dying off in the fall. Winters seem to be no problem. Why do you ask.
