Default Just another Gerrard.

image.jpg

Pic of a old buddy this past Saturday right out front of the arm using a billy on the surface.
The Gerrard came in at 16lbs. Caught with the help of Ctp. Mike of SplitShot.

My favorite lake - one of my favorite spots - looks like just outside the marker bouys by Balfour.

Caught some really nice one just along the west shore going south out of the arm there.

What were they biting on?

My guess is a little further south. Beauty bow , that size is the fish you want for the sport they fight like true chrome bullets.

Nice fish, I wanted to rotate the picture to see it better so figured I might as well re-post it.

I'm thinking it's close to here...somewhat easterly, facing north?
Great looking Gerard!

Hard to tell but that looks like it's closer to where the rail bridge is on the cliffs near shore, further south past the creek, west shore south of arm.

If it's where I think it is - great spot ............ and get outa there with your Alberta boat !!!! lol.

The second pic is just north of the trestle's looking north . The pic with the fish is roughly at the piling beach looking east roughly. Unless I'm mistaken in which case it's closer to Woodbury looking east a riondel.

I love that lake - good to see other forum members run this same water too. something special about that lake that keeps calling you back.

Funny how a few guys, that live in another province, can pick a spot on a lake that's over 100 km long ........and 800 km away.

Greatest lake for Gerhards in Canada.

The lake and the west arm were my front yard for ten yrs . tye to the no fish zone in the north . Thousands of hours with lines out the back. Check out my album I got a somewhat more intimate pic of Gerard. Oh and a birch grove trophy.

Such a pristine lake, exhilarating scenery, the chest pounding excitement created by illusions of mammoth trout following your tackle, all the while knowing the haunting depths that lie beneath. I'll be back!

Hate hijacking threads,
But my family and i have a cabin booked 5 kms north of Kaslo!
Are there any decent Gerard spots in this area?
Or will i have to travel to Balfour in hopes of landing a Gerard?

First time ever on Kootenay lake or Gerard fishing.
Tks

I would have to say they are not in any one spot. Right now the water temp is up and draging hairs is the name of the game.
Do you have a boat?
What tackle do you have?

We will be out there in 3 days

I have a boat, downriggers, trolling motor.
As for tackle, i have a dozen or so water dogs and a dozen or so bucktail flies.

I am hoping to buy additional tackle in Balfour.

My biggest concern is location, being 5 kms north of Kaslo, just curious if theres any decent fishing in that area. Dont mind running up to 10 miles or so to fish!
But any further than that, i would probably tow and launch the boat each day.

Thanks and look forward to your response

Kaslo is fine, lots of big fish come out of that area. your time window should just catch the returning spawners great colors not the best eating imo. Directly across from kaslo is the inkspot cliffs , woodbury -riondel. gets lots of fish imo no need to run 40 miles to balfor. Let me know when your down we'll get ya sorted.

Have you guys had more luck trolling Kootenay Lake along the shore/cliff faces or out in the middle? In my limited experience we've caught more trolling along the edges of the lake, but they've also been mostly bull trout.
