Default Caddis Flies

Hey, I'm putting together a list of flies to tye to get ready for fishing. Last time I was out here I spent more time hunting, this time around I'm going to do more fishing. I've found quite a bit of info on stones and mayflies but not much on caddis. Could you help with what color caddis are in this province. I live in Fox Creek and will be fishing mostly between Whitecourt and Fox Creek and a few lakes farther north like Swan and Dollar. I plan on making some trips down south a few times a year, so I'm looking at species for the whole province.

Caddis here are a wide variety of colors. I usually start with a rust colored body. That seems to be the most common one. I have found them olive and yellow and sometimes very dark brown. But as I said the most common is the rust colored body. I use either elk hair or deer hair in natural brown for both. for the wing on the caddis. I usually tie them on a size 12 or 10 light shanked hook.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, for the info. Back east we have tan, black, grey and olive caddis. I like to use cdc on my elk hair caddis, colored to match the body.
