Anyone know if there open water around mid march up here?

The only place there is open water is the odd spot on the on the Kicking Horse river. The lakes are pretty snow covered till late April. I have fished a few of the higher mountain lakes in June and July and they have always been half covered with ice.

i agree...we snowmobile up to Gorman lake in april and its usually frozen solid. when the melt happens it usually goes fast.....but april you aint wetting a line in open water there.....some sledders are still ice fishing it

Pigeon lake in the middle of alberta doesn't lose ice until may....

Yeah I have even sledded Gorman/Lange on June 11-12th.
I have hiked into Gorman Lake numerous times on the July long weekend and never seen it more than 25% open water.
The times I have hiked into it in August it has been 100% open water.
