Question Leaving from Calgary, somewhere mountainy within 90 minutes drive?

hihi

Going on a spontaneous fishing trip tomorrow! Yay. I've been suggesting a few places but I keep getting shot down because "it's not in the mountains". I would have gone to Pine Coulee

Would anyone be able to recommend a place to do some fishing, ice or not, within about 1.5hrs from Calgary?

I was reading about Spray Lakes, the road being in pretty terrible condition. That's looking like the plan right now.

Is there still ice on Upper/Lower Kananaskis?

Any other suggestions? Doesn't matter which fish or what the keep limits are.

Many thanks in advance!

Upper and Lower Kananaskis still have ice, but I can't comment on how safe it is right now. Chain Lakes Res. west of Nanton was partially open as of a few days ago, and could be completely ice free as of today. I guess it's not really in the mountains though, like Pine Coulee.

The trout lakes in the Pincher Creek area (Beaver Mines, Beauvais, Lee) are all ice free, or mostly ice free now. Takes me 2.5 hours to get to Beaver Mines from my place in NE Calgary.
