Default Ice at Rock Lake? (near Hinton)

Does anyone know if the ice is off Rock lake? I've tried calling the Alberta Parks info line with no luck for days. It opens May 19th, it's one of my options for the long weekend.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

p.s. I understand gas motors are allowed on this lake, if not please let me know.

Are you sure about gas motors?

I thought I heard they went to electric only.

Last year when I was at Rock there was a small sign by the campground registration sign that said no gas motors. Obeyed by some and ignored by others. We did o.k. with electric motors.

Check your regs for size and bait restrictions.

Be safe and have fun!

If you spend enough time on that lake you will pick up the odd nice sized laker. 3 years ago I caught one out of there on one of my favorite fly patterns. Great producer for that lake.

Ahh Rock Lake north of Hinton.. has a few Lunker Lakers /most small .. also some nice pike in the weed beds .. and if you want a nice Rocky Mountain Whitefish near creek.. and once in a while a Bull Trout.. the lakers can be caught on a fly to the left of creek after ice off .. or along right side eary morning .. the wind comes up around noon and can be nasty so be warned.. ice off late May to June.. Mountain Lake.. Food for Thought...David

Yes, gas is allowed.

It is an amazing place. I love the fishing there. There are also HUGE pike in the lake. But they are hard to find.

I don't know why that sign is there. You are allowed gas motors according to the provincal web-page for the lake. It will say ''electric motors'' only under the power boating icon if no gas motors are allowed. I was there last year and everyone had gas engines and the F&W officers did not say anything. I'm actually going up to Rock Lake for May long with my boat and motor. So to say people are ignoring the obviously out of date sign is wrong. Get your facts straight.

Pretty sure gas is fine, just no recreational boating - water skiing/tubing/wake boarding etc.

I've always paddled on that lake, but I've seen others using gas, so I assumed. Sorry for the false information.

I've looked through the regulations and cannot find where Rock Lake has any restrictions.

If I missed it, please tell me where it's listed as being gas only (besides a sign at the lake).

Thanks
