25-06 good for sheep

I have a Parker hale 25-06 and was thinking of using it for sheep anyone else use them for sheep?

They been shooting sheep with the .250-3000 and .257 Roberts for years.The only concern in sheep country is a marginal caliber for grizzlies should a self defense situation develop.

25-06 is a dandy in my books. Use what you got and I got no doubt it'll make a hump back bear sick. Shoot him twice and .25 x2 equals a 50. Lol

As are most of the rifles used for sheep hunting.

Unlikely most are carrying .243-.257 sheep hunting alone.More apt to be 6.5 to .30 caliber.Life is a risk at best.Like bringing a knife to a gunfight.Grizzlies have came into camp to steal freshly kill game and I'd carry something big enough to ensure he dies and not me.Your mileage may vary.If someone in your party has a cool head under pressure and a larger gun by all means bring your 25-06 or at least load up some 120gr Barnes X or Partitions JIC.

Holy Crap! There are a lot of guys that have really bad luck with running into grizzly bears. In 35 yrs. of sheep hunting I only had 3 encounters with bears and not a one resulted in pulling a firearm. Oh and I shoot a .243 win

Exactly my thoughts. We sure got a pile of guys that are scared out of their tree about bears on here it seems. A grizzly dies just as good as any black bear I know and it doesn't take much. Never have had any major issues and I have packed around a pile of dead sheep. A few warning shots is all I have ever had.

Oh no, there are thousands of big nasty grizzlies just waiting to pounce on and gobble up sheep hunters. Sheep hunters are the grizzlies favorite food. When the sheep hunter migration moves up into the mountains in the fall grizzlies come out of their caves waiting behind every tree and boulder to ambush them. Modern grizzlies adapt and have begun to use sheep decoys to attract hunters. Sheep hunters are unwary, slow and easy to hunt, usually come in pairs or batchelor groups of males. Old successful sheep hunters who have survived many seasons always have the biggest guns, carry hundreds of bullets and have their finger on the trigger at all times.

Just when you think you have see every reason why people hate the quarter bore something new comes up. The 100 gr swifts moving at 3350fps work fine on elk I’m sure they will be fine on sheep and if I had to I’m sure it would make a mess out of a rampaging grizzly at point blank range.

Grizzlies everywhere, piles of missing hikers mixed in bear poop, stay home, stay safe

And yes the 25-06 will kill whatever you hit with it properly.

The last year of the Grizzly hunt in Alberta buddy got drawn. He killed his mature boar with a 25-06.

Alberta record grizzly bear was killed with a .22. Will kill anything if you hit it properly

You can stop a bear with any gun and a bazooka is not needed. That said a bazooka of a gun is most often times useless as well in those situations

Carried mine on the weekend doing camera things. 2 grizzes on camera. But it is the only rifle I carry lol

bearspray for bears, the gun and or cartridge choice of gun shouldn't be much of a consideration, whatever will work for sheep and also back you up but not as good as effective as bearspray in majority of situations or hands

i like the quarter bore, it's been largely ignored lately, it'll be the next trend in firearm/cartridge development imo

my rifle is almost always in pieces tucked away in my pack, blaser k95 in .270 win for quite awhile now, cartridge choice irrelevant, bearspray on the shoulder strap and it goes with me even if i go 20' from the pack
