Default City Folk

So at my parents for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. They are rural, and these guys show up. They stand there taking family photos for a half an hour. They are well onto private property and act like they don’t have a care in the world.

The funny thing is, this happens all the time. My mom has even had people walk into the kitchen while she is baking. I’m talking, opening the door, and walking right in. What in the world?

It’s a private horseshoe driveway.

Ya, That's weird. Follow them home and get their address then use their yard to host the 2020 AO Calendar shoot...

Default Trespassing

Either tell them to leave or call the police. Not sure how discussing the issue on internet forum will solve the problem.

I’ve raised and trained 2 labs.... they bark at strangers... both have never bitten.
25 years..... never had a problem with trespassers... cept for that drunk guy that broke into wifeys van... stole some tidbits in the dead of winter... dog lost her mind.. woke me up and I chased him down in my skivies ..... dealt with him. Cops arrived.... almost sicked their doggo on me. Funny stuff

As well.... they are pretty useful if you have a hobby like hunting.

Chuck... you gotta take up pheasant/upland hunting bud. You and your kids will fall in love with it. I bet you’d be a natural hunting dog trainer too.

It’s not worth getting worked up over really. I just find it extremely odd.

Maybe a "Private Drive" sign would do the trick.

Without asking for permission that is not acceptable. As for a stranger walking into a house unannounced that could lead to a serious confrontation.

If it is any solace you are not alone in this. While we were in Iceland there were notices put up in smaller towns advising people that came out of the cruise ships not to walk into peoples yards or take photos through windows of people in their homes. Seems like some people think everything outside their normal domain is a Hobbit village open for them to explore.

Just not acceptable. Hopefully you have a private drive sign, no trespassing, beware of dog (even it there is not one) put up.

Weird...makes me wonder if this was there families home quarter at some pont? Not an excuse but might explain why they want photos on the old home stead.

I ended up with a 1/4 that was homesteaded by my neighbours grandfather. Their family (and extended family) always asks me if it is ok to go and get photos at the barn or take family on - naturally I have no problem of course.

My family is the original homesteader on this quarter.

Perhaps not worth getting worked up over, but one might want to consider liability if they fall and get injured and sue.

There was turkey present, but if they wanted to save it they were too late. :-)

I have no doubt!

Bizarre behaviour tho. Really bizarre. Hard to fathom what's going thru people's minds. Million dollar view not withstanding...

Hope it didn't mess up your family dinner too badly. Happy Thanksgiving!
