Who likes that caliber or should I say that round.
Which rifle is it best chambered in.

I LOVE IT!
I've had mine since 1988. Remington 700 Classic. It has a great piece of wood (to nice to push through swamps) so I replaced it with an aftermarket stock. Had it bedded and the trigger touched up. I reload using Hornady 250gr bullets infront of IMR 3031. Off the bench 1/2"-3/4". Fantastic moose cartridge. One shot,no repeats.

Love mine, I have two. Both lh Rem 700's, one custom on a SS action, the other has a Rem take-off barrel from a rh 700 screwed onto a lh action.

I have two buddy's both with customs that shoot 200 ttsx at 2940 fps with h4895. Awesome bush guns. I think I want one.

I just picked one up a few weeks ago on a winchester m70 push feed action. I did some load testing last weekend and it's a shooter with 250 gr core locks and 225 accu bonds. Recoil is very light but I think much of that has to do with rifle being 8.5lbs

Which rifle do you like best. I had one chambered in a 7600 Pump, very slick hunting rifle, and just as accurate as most bolts out there. Anything past 300yds or so, and it really drops off, but how often does one shoot further then that?

I had one as well bought on Canadian Gunnutz in a past life. The action kept blowing open with each shot and i sold it either their or here on AO. Wasn't overly fond of it.

That's because there is nothing holding the bolt closed, once the trigger breaks. It does not mean the gun is defective in any way. Also the more recoil there is the more the slide wants to move rearward, it's not the gases directly blowing the action open. And the Whelen will has the most recoil of any 7600. I was getting just over 2600fps with 250g bullets, in summer weather, more like. 2540 in hunting season.

Your experience with the Rem 7600 is much more positive than mine. Every time I looked at mine, my little inside voice would say "how could you be so stupid?".

That is very common on those 7600s in 35Whelen. I've had it happen on three that I've owned esp with 250gr bullets.

Bought my Remington 700 Classic in 1989. 250 Speer with imr4320. shoots great. Puts moose on the ground everytime.
Loading some 200gr Hornady for deer this season.

I built my own 35 whelen about thirty years ago and still like it very much. Although it is generally regarded as a close range cartridge, I made my longest shot on a deer with the 35 (about 450 yd). It did drop a bit! I shoot 250's for hunting and load some 158 357 bullets at reduced power for small game.
Regarding the 7600's; The action doesn't "blow open" but does open due to the inertia of the slide. The slide lock unlocks when the hammer falls, the slide moves forward slightly under recoil (it actually stays put while the rest of the rifle begins to recoil) then continues to travel rearward when the rest of the rifle stops. Disconcerting when firing from the bench but of no consequence. Leeper

Haha, every time I look at mine, I think how smart I am. I think I'll use it for the rifle rodeo on the 9th.

Excalibur with olive stock 250 gr hornadys. Works great

Found my father in law a remington 750 semi auto in 35 whelen a few years ago. Load it with 225 partitions and RL15, to about 2600 fps. Could load it higher without pressure signs, but it wouldnt cycle as reliably. Shoots about 1" groups. Great gun, no recoil, and on moose 1 shot no more.

After working with that rifle, I found myself a Ruger hawkeye stainless in 35. Have yet to shoot it but I know it will be great. Very light, handles well. And recently handloader magazine did a full write up on modern loads for the 35 using the ruger hawkeye stainless!

I would use 225 or 250 partitions, loaded with RL15, Varget, or IMR8208XBR.
