Default It will be 1 year on Monday!!

This time last year my wife and I took our Restricted PAL courses and both passed with flying colours. I got my card in the mail within a month, I've had my regular PAL since it became law. My wife on the other hand is still waiting, we call the firearms office every week and every week its the same story. They tell us they can take as long as they like, end of discussion. Last week I called my MLA and he too said there is nothing he can do, they can take as long as they like.

It's funny we can do background checks on new Canadians and let them into the country faster then we can do 1 check for a restricted PAL?

I'm disappointed in the system, its failed the people.

I am sure there is a good if not, great reason.
but you'll never get to hear it.
I had my range membership expire during the reapplication process and that stopped the process for weeks.

That sucks

The authority given to the CFO's should be reviewed, there should be some accountability. Have they contacted the references? Have they taken the fee from your credit card?

Are you calling New Brunswick or the CFO office? Also, try you MP instead of your MLA. Firearms are federal. I agree though, it is an absolute joke. My R/PAL expires in 7 months. I dont currently own any Restricted cause i travel a lot so I transferred them to my dad and putmy stuff in storage. I will have to join a range for the sole purpose of getting my Rpal even though i will never use it

I would write to the Minister, explain the situation and how it reflects poorly on the relationship the administration has with its clients. If there is a real issue then this should be explained, otherwise a twelve month plus time frame is unreasonable. As is any statement as to them being able to take as long as they want.

Every time we call we get the same story, that its being investigated. It went to the local RCMP and now back to the firearms officer, they can never say what it was they are concerned about. in the mid 2000's a guy went nuts at a party on our subdivision and the cops were called as he threatened a couple of people, my wife there and saw it. She testified in court and he went and did some time, not near enough I might add. I suspect its that issue, but my wife didn't do anything, she was just a witness.
