Besides not having as many ammo options as the .243, what's been people's experience with the 25-06? Thanks

I like mine a lot, took a bit to find what it likes but the 120 partitions do fine

My wife has been killing critters from Antelope to moose with her 234 for almost 40 years. I used to take her 243 when she didn't come hunting, and last year I bought one for myself.
The only problem we ever had was with cup and core bullets disentigrating and ruining a lot of meat. I started reloading ,and for the past 30 years we only use 95gr partitions, and the results have been excellent. Rare we don't have a pass thru and the exit holes are like a ping pong ball size instead of a tennis ball size.
I do find it amusing to read a 243 is not adequate for a moose or elk from someone that says a 30-30 is adequate. The reality is a 243 has a lot more everything but initial size than the 30-30 .
Not bashing the 30-30, I have one of them too.

Is the wound channel not larger from a 30-30? Or does a .243 bullet expand more because of higher velocity in turn creating as big a wound channel?

Well loaded question as there are multiple variables that add to the question...distance, velocity, etc at the end of the day both are capeable calibres in the right hands and within reasonable distance etc

I like both the 243 win and the 6mm rem, have a couple of each. I have loaded for quite a few up and comers over the years and really like the 100 gr PT . The performance has been nothing short of excellent .

Can't help myself, I'm still interested in why there is no maximum caliber???
Someone mentioned magnumitis being little-man syndrome, but I wonder if the reverse isn't true??
I'm just gonna go show the world how little a bullet I can use to get my deer this year??
I just can't wrap my head around sub MOA .243 shooters being flinch-shy & out of the kill zone with a reasonably larger gun, but maybe that's just me....

Some shoot smaller cartridges because Of the pain Inflicted by larger ones .
Others shoot smaller cartridges because they flinch when using larger ones but can control the smaller ones easier .
As far as egos and fun goes, some shoot bigger guns ,some shoot smaller guns , and done shoot vintage guns , others shoot long range and done see his close they can get ,
It's all good , no right or wrong even though some think there is.

I personally want to shoot .243 this year because I got one of my deer last year with my .308 loaded with Sierra gameking which resulted in a large exit wound with a lot of lost meat (broadside shot exiting in front of shoulder). I'll never give up on her it's my favorite rifle by far but for deer if a .243 will make it just as dead with less meat damage I'll give it a try

.243 is fine out to 400 yards with good bullets IMO. I've had bad experiences with Hornady SST's though. I had them loaded pretty hot and it made an absolute mess on deer within 100 yards. Lots of bloodshot and lost meat if it hits any bone at all.
