Very interesting. Seem about normal around here at the moment. My experience is El Nino years are dry springs, which seem to have high populations.
Don't know if breeding is easier when there less rain??
Also find gophers on lower grass stands, predator visibility?
Nothing other than observation to back this up, might be way off...

You must have some serious land to get that many an day and they just keep coming and 1800 wow that's a lot of shots even 1-1 ratio gets expensive lol

most of them are coming off 5 quarters.......it's unreal. I've been getting between 4/5 thousand every summer. there's a quarter that I can really see a reduction in numbers, but as soon as I move, they come back.

when I run out on these 5 quarters, there's farmers calling/offering ammo if i'll come to their place. don't think i'll live long enough to get 'em all! wife says I should start outfitting for them.

I wouldn't think so at all. A group of 8 I was part of spent a 2 day weekend trying to thin out a couple sections, and dispatched on the order of 5000. think of all the members here who do this, and all spring and summer, keeping their fields clean. I suspect the number would probably be much higher if everyone actually participated in this thread.

I'm jealous. We still have 8" of snow in most places. So how much is a guided gopher hunt these days.

Went to a ranchers field on the weekend to blow off some work stress... The poor guys pen was literally infested with gophers... I take back what I said about killin too many....

We got 80 confirmed between the 3 of us and barely made a dent.
