Default Winchester SXP shotgun

I have an opportunity to purchase a very lightly used Winchester SXP 12 gauge shotgun with two barrels.

I have been reading that there were some issues with previous models of this gun.

Any feedback from owners is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

John

I have owned two of them. One I shot a bunch and one never left the box before I sold it.

They are decent enough shotguns, Made in Turkey. If the price is right, buy it. If buying new I like the Made in USA Mossberg Maverick at the low end of the pump price range.

I've had two in the house. One youth 20 gauge and a 12 still sits in the safe for my son. Never, ever had an issue.

I have one that I have put a couple of hundred rounds through it with no issues, it is a defender model.

Recall only applies to 3 1/2 inch SXP.

Have only ever had one problem with mine.

Seems like the challenger shells don’t like to eject. They quite often get stuck on the way out.

No problems with any other ammo.

Default Buy it For sure

We have two 12 gauges, one youth for my fiancé to shoot, we love them both and never had problems.

Ones to stay away from imo are mossberg as I had numerous problems with my first shotgun which was a mossberg.

Maybe if you gave it a B12 shot it wouldn't be so sluggish.

Just went downstairs and cycled the action on my son's again. Super nice pump for the price. I'd equate it to a Weatherby Vanguard. Not a head turner or anything, but solidly capable of what you need it to do... feed reliably, go bang when you point it at your target, and eject spent case.

Never had issues with mine until It got ran over in a goose field. Replaced the bent barrel and continued to shoot it for years.

I bought one a few months ago and really like it. Its light and cycles well. Im a lefty so it works for me too, when some shotties don't. It came with 3 chokes too. I'd recommend it. Paid $650 at cabelas.

No issues yet. We have several in the extended family and they have been great so far.

Where did you source the replacement barrel? I’m looking for a longer barrel and plug.

I think at the time bashaw sports was the Winchester dealer. Pud ordered the wrong one then had to send it back while I got the correct part number from Winchester and re ordered it. All in all a royal pain in the arse. Barrel was half the price of a new gun.

I picked up an sxp a couple years ago. Almost a year to the day the couple plastic tabs that hold the trigger group in broke. Now it jambs after every shot. Piece is only available from a certified gunsmith???

We own a couple different models, both the 3-1/2” chamber, both cycle well and never have had any issues. I think the Winchester website shows what serial numbers should be recalled maybe, as I looked into the same concern years ago.
