Default Rocky filled day on the Bow

Hit the bow today. Netted 11 fish 8 of which were rockys. All were really nice and fat. I did manage to catch my new personal worst rocky lol, my hand was longer then it Landed 3 bows 1 of which was worth a pic, also had a screwed up gill plate, not sure how it lost part of it(born without it maybe ). Had my first bow pike on as well, lil bugger bite me off . Then just after i hooked into a lunker rainbow, and for the first time in a long time, i was broken off the split second after it broke off, its jumped out of the water right in front of me just to rub it in was easily over 20". Caught majority of fish on of course the SJW, the rest were caught on a Hare's Ear.

Also all along the shore there were probably over 100 corpses of dead geese and mallards whats that all about? All have been eaten out by the yotes and such, few whole birds still there though.

Nice Alberta bonefish there Lethal.

As for dead waterfowl---Avian cholera
Avian cholera, also known as fowl cholera, is one of the most common diseases among wild North American waterfowl. It is the result of infection with the bacterium Pasteurella multocida. This bacterium kills swiftly, sometimes in as few as 6 to 12 hours after infection. Live bacteria released into the environment by dead and dying birds can subsequently infect healthy birds. As a result, avian cholera can spread quickly through a wetland and kill hundreds to thousands of birds in a single outbreak. Avian cholera often affects the same wetlands and the same bird populations year after year.

The waterfowl that don't migrate and hang around water treatment plants and slow moving streams get Avian Cholera.Harold

Didn't the same thing happen in Calgary last spring, but closer to the sewage treatment plant, i though they had a bunch of ducks dying in the river.

Nice catch's

Default Dead Ducks And Geese

I would report what you have seen..I do not believe this is natural. I am under the impression that Avian Cholera occurs in still waters and the conditions have to be right *ie. very high concentration of birds and elevated water temps etc.
