Cool catch indeed, a bit concerning however, it seems impossible to stop the evolved hybrids.

Is this simply nature re-balancing itself? Is this to be the new "Norm" in the near future?

Is this fish considered a retainable fish had it met the size requirements?

Too many questions?!?

i see where you're coming from Ice. i dug up a couple bull trout pics to compare to the fish in question from last night. many have that similar coloring and some do not. another thing i've noted, is that none of the fish i have pics of have the modeling color in the tail as this fish did.

all these fish reside in southern alberta streams and rivers as well as the Kananaskis Lakes. is there another possible suspect fish here?

Dace

Damn dace those are some dandy fish.

I will be on the hunt for some bulls this year. All of your pictures of them have pushed me over the edge.

Congrats on the recent one out of the bow.

I think that it is a brook trout, also.

Jim at anytime please chime in with the "good stuff". there's more than a few of us here who really enjoy and benefit from the data you share. thank-you.

it seems that my cool and unique catch out of the Bow has now become something even more special.

Awesome fish Dace, congrats. I know one location on the bow where brookies and bulls are likely hybridizing...maybe that is where your fish came from! PM me if you are at all interested.
Congrats again!

Wow, nice fish. Not sure I could handle catching something like any of these... still think a 15" trout is a monster! *lol*

Of course, I'm still getting my fish legs. But it does make me wonder where hybrids fall in the regs. Education is important.

Since a brook X bull hybrid is not a bull trout, the bull trout 0-bag limit regulation would not apply. If the regulations in effect for the waterbody where the brook X bull hybrid was caught permit the harvest of brook trout of that size, then this hybrid could have been harvested.

However, since most anglers would have a hard time differentiating hybrids from bull trout, we do not encourage anglers to harvest brook X bull hybrids, even under the Quirk Creek Brook Trout Suppression Project.

Jim

good information for all Jim. before this fish and the education i received from yourself and others, i fell under the "most anglers" category. i know more now and am on the hunt for my second brookie/bull hybrid, stay tuned.
