Exclamation Need Help With Rifle Care

So I went hunting with my 6mm, it was on Vancouver Island so of course it was raining. I got caught up in the thrill of my first successful hunt and put the gun in the case without letting it dry or cleaning it. It sat for 2 months, now I would like to use it again but it is quite rusty. The main parts that need attention are the bore and the action.

Can it be brought back to good condition or is it better to just basically get rid of?

It wasn't valuable in the first place being a 6mm Winchester Model 70 from about 20 years ago.

Default rifle abuse !!

depending how much you want to keep your rifle is how much time you want to steel wool it prrobably going to loose your finish and don't forget inside the barrel good luck !! maybe even if you don't keep it you should clean it for a lesson

It can be resorted to original condition, for a price.

Depending on how bad the rust is, it may be as easy as a good scrubbing with fine steel wool and a little oil or it could take a total restore job.
Either way it well worth doing, for someone. Maybe not for you though.

I have restored a number of old guns, mostly shotguns. Many of them came to me looking more like old crowbars then shotguns. I was able to restore them to good, no like new, condition and I'm just a beginner at this.

Anything is possible, it just depends on ones ability to learn new things and their willingness to put in the time.

If you don't have it, or don't have the time, maybe a friends does.
Or you could take it to a gunsmith.

Thanks for the help. Where would I find out how to do the restoring myself? All I need is the brushes and jags for cleaning the bore. Should I get it checked out by a gunsmith to make sure that it will be in good condition?
