I agree, I have never eaten Talapia or Basa, nor will I ever, for these very reasons. I'd take a fish from the North Sask any day over those. All you have to do is go on YouTube, search the show Dirty Jobs that was on tv and look for the Show on Tilapia used in a water treatment facility and you will be completely grossed out from ever eating those disgusting little buggers again. At least the water flowing down the North Sask starts out in the the ice fields of the Rockies as nice clear, clean water. We may be adding copious amounts of bad stuff along the way but still more appealing than a store bought Tilapia or Basa farmed in a cesspool somewhere overseas.

Right on. Love fishin the NSR but it's strictly C&R for this guy.

Anyone that eats fish from the supermarket (farm fish, not fresh) should watch Salmon Confidential

Thanks for sharing this documentary! What with salmon being on sale at the supermarkets this time of year it's a perfect time to share it too.

This really makes one realize that the NSR fish are not bad compared to what our own governments deems "safe" from these fish farms. I've always been against them and I know out on the East Coast they've been pushing for them saying "Look, the fish are fine in BC!" What a way to ruin something so beautiful.
As a sushi lover, this gives me the chills.

Not eating sushi any more after the story about the guy in Calgary and the worms in his gut!

On the NSR last night watched a a bait fisher and his son. "Ding-ding" goes the bell on his rod and a few minutes later a fat sucker goes into the bucket for dinner (fish tajine, yum!).

Its easier to get low level mecury posioning than you think and it takes a long time to go away. I always follow the consumption guide

Not to mention what is upstream (Edmonton ) Funny how a lot of people wouldn't touch the fish from the NSR with a 10-foot pole but take their limits home from Tobin, Diefenbaker, etc.

I am so brave I actually eat smoked oysters and sardines from China. Now that's scary.
Yes you are brave eating fish and other creatures from China grown lagoon pools

As a kid we caught them near home, NorthBattleford on the NSR. We ate some but definitely limited consumption. They looked good and tasted ok.

Few years back I was fishing the river in Edmonton and after releasing a pike I lost the feeling in my fingers for a few hrs . I thought it was because water was really cold . Weeks later I am at a lake and I grab that hook that I caught that pike with and my fingers went numb . Not only will i not eat fish from that river ,but i would be wearing rubber gloves if I return again .

Lol, I've worked with guys who chain smoke under their welding helmets, live off of gas station food, and only shower a couple times a week... many of them felt that the NSR was "gross".

Dam with that type of diet the fish from the river would be considered a step in the right direction health wise.

I personally wouldn’t eat fish caught in and a round a big city centre but to each their own.
