I posted this a few weeks ago. Fishing was very very slow....But---->
Just got back from a 3 day trip! Ice was good but the 2-3 foot deep snow drifts stopped us from driving on the ice. It was 13-17" (used a tape measure)
I caught one 13lb laker. Fished insanely hard, walked 3km out to a ridge and fished the chit out of it. Pulled the one fish out in the evening of the first day.
Spent the next morning fishing round lake. Did some SERIOUS 4x4 getting into and out of round lake....no fish...Drove around a good portion of round lake. ice was 14-18" thick.
Was just stunned at the crap fishing...But it was nice to catch a laker again...And my first through the ice!
Talked to some locals out snowmobiling, seemed super nice and so did every other one we talked to around peerless. Iv worked up in that area alot in the summer, never had problems.
Had one other giant fish on at the bottom in 90ft of water. had two other bites in that depth as well. All on a purple 8" jig with a 1oz green head.
Caught my lake trout on a 5" white tube jig. Jigging rapidly 5 feet under the ice, it stripped 100's of feet of line and burnt out my reel!! he was at the bottom and i had to hand line him up! what a battle!
Good luck! Bring a skidoo and head to the west side of the lake....

Never got a chance to try and get back in there. Alot easier in the winter on sleds than in the summer on quads. Won't get a truck in there from what I've been told. I've been wanting to do a winter trip up there for some time now, might have to get off my ass and actually do it...

We drove a truck to equisetum quite a few years ago, dry weather only thats for sure - the fishing was ok. There are better lakes in the area that are easier to access. We tried to get into vandersteen but we had too big of a boat to get through the creek from graham. Heard you can drive there now. Talked to a bunch of guy's (maybe 6-8 total) that were on their way out and had been in there for 2 weeks straight, they had there limit (maybe a few extra) with 3 or 4 ten pound plus walleye. Limit was ten back then I think.
This is kind of off topic but relats to the area and I will never forget it, 3 years ago we went up to God's lake in mid June. We never caught a walleye, must have been spawning or something as it was the only time out of 20 or so trips that we never caught one. However, we did get 2 whitefish over 10 pounds. One was caught on a big five of diamonds and the other was caught on a white double tail jig. Absolute pigs, I do have pictures of one of them actually... the other one my dad lost while trying to put it on the stringer.

My bad, I was thinking of a different lake than equistum. Not gonna say which one as no one has mentioned it, but I've been told you will not get a truck into it, too much muskeg. Vandersteen has been vehicle accessible for awhile, but last time I was up there it was still a goat trail, and pretty much needed to be dry to get in. Not sure if its been improved upon or not.
