Default Used fly tying materials

I've looked through this section as well as the "For Sale" section and have not seen any used flying tying equipment or tying materials. Are these things that typically don't come up for sale?

Fly tyers are hoarders. Most would be embarrassed to show a picture of their stash, and would never part with any of their treasure trove. Many fear that a material will be discontinued and you will run out. Myself included.

Seriously though, it is not the quantity of each material that you have in excess (then you might sell some of it). It is the variety of stuff that kills you so there's not an excess of one particular material or colour. The only time I sold some material is when I received a bulk order of beads, and did not see any possibility of using 2000 beads in each size over a lifetime. So I sold a few batches of 800 to get rid of them, leaving me with only 10,000 or so.

Fly tying equipment and materials DO come up in the buy and sell on occasion, equipment more often than materials. You just have to wait it out. There are some good deals, but sometimes the seller is asking way too much. Also, keep a watch on Kijiji.

Thanks for that Badger. I know what you mean "it's the variety of materials is what kills you" and i've never been serious about tying.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not looking to buy. I have a fair bit materials and basic tools that I just don't use and have been looking around to see what would be a fair and reasonable price for the stuff but, haven't seen anything for sale any where thus my question. Badger must be right, tiers are hoarders LOL.

Last summer I had a garage sale of fly tying material for a widow of a friend that passed. Massive amount of material, 80 boxes plus books vices etc. It does happen.

Short of an estate sale, if a serious fly tyer is selling it, it is likely cuz the material sucks.

Not always, I've sold/traded materials just because I've had an excess.
