Default 522 Cow Elk

I'm heading up to 522 for a late season cow elk Dec 21,22,23. I'm hearing there is a couple feet of snow in the bush and the rain and warm weather is making travel by foot rather noisy. I have permission on a few places along the river and sounds like with the warm weather the elk are not moving much. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll be bringing snowshoes and some good optics to scour the drainages. Appreciate any feedback or PM's
Thanks!

Put miles on, look for fields that have bales in them still or standing crop.
There isn't as much snow in the fields as the bush, so they can move around out in the open but they aren't travelling far to their beds.
Talk to land owners, they may also know of someone having issues with the elk

If you’re able to I’d suggest waiting for -20 or colder. Between now and then touch base with the local landowners (that have hay fields) once or twice a week (ask first of course, some folks don’t appreciate a few calls). There are lots of very friendly landowners in this zone that are happy to help get rid of Elk.

Also the local F&W office has a list of landowners having trouble with Elk that they are happy to share 👍

Good luck

Ur tag is good til Jan 20, so I’d suggest waiting 2-3 weeks.
Another member was successful in NW corner of that zone in past years.

All good suggestions, right now the forecast looks like it cools down back to seasonal temps -10 for highs for those 3 days. I keep in touch with a few of the landowners I know. If I strike out on those 3 days I may have to head out one more time. Please keep the information coming in. I will be in the NW area of the zone.
