Haven't been up to Spray since mid-January.
With the cold of February, I'm assuming the ice is much thicker now.

Anyone been recently that can provide an update on thickness? Wondering if I need to put the extension on my auger this coming week.

I made it through with a 8” hand auger in less than a minute. It’s about 18” at driftwood. You should be good without an extension.
I hooked up before 10:30am but after that is died off. I ended the day with one 16” keeper for the table. White tubes were the ticket!

My dad is visiting in a couple of weeks and I would like to get him out. He is 73 is suffering a little from some ailments.

Is there a well beaten path down to the ice surface? How much snow is on top of the ice?

I was there last Sunday, there is about 10" of snow. Easiest path would be from the parking lot at Driftwood. That said this is not the deepest part of the lake. I went down at Sparrowhawk, however this is not an easy climb back up pulling a sled.

If you were to take him out anywhere, I would suggest driftwood for sure. Sparrowhawk is quite the haul to get out and back up the hill.

What size of white tube? I didn't have any success with my tubes 3 weeks ago but the ticket was flies (red blood worm with gold bead and scud imitations)

Thanks Guys. I would pull the sled and all gear so Dad would just have to get himself out. Even still sounds like it might be a little much.

Maybe it's drift wood. I know Sparrowhawk much better. Few spots GPS'd. In all the times I have driven by, I have never stopped at Driftwood.

We were at Sparrowhawk today, the fishing was quite slow for us, with few fish caught and few bites. We marked quite a few fish on the flasher today, but they weren't buying what we were trying to sell. Nice day to get out though.

There's about 5" or 6" of fairly soft snow on the ice right now, so walking helps you work up a sweat. Ice was exactly 24" were we had the tent set up.

On the ice by 8am today -- west shore across from Sparrowhawk.
Slow all day, landed 6 small ones before 11am then it shut off like usual.
Good ole wind at 11am too.

One of the slower winters on Spray for us.

Fished Spray yesterday. Nearly bottomed auger out (mainly due to the 8"of frozen slush on top of the ice). Bite was pretty steady.
