Default Salmon rod - river fishing?

I am looking to add a new rod to the arsenal. Any advice/suggestions for a river/casting set up for salmon? I work in Vancouver/Victoria on a regular basis and want to have something for river and shore fishing.
Thanks,
Weekender

A low profile baitcaster like a Calcutta 200 and a Fenwick HMX/Trophy XL 10' rod would suit your needs.

^-- he's right.

On that note... make a trip into the tackle shop in Coquitlam. They'll get you set-up with what you need.

I have a G Loomis and a Temple Fork both in 10'6" lengths. I wouldn't recommend G Loomis even though it is a beautiful rod because they wouldn't honor a warranty on a rod that snapped fighting its first fish. I use Ambassadeur 7000 C3 reels and they have performed very well.

You don't need to over do it, buy an Abu reel and a +$100 river rod and your good to go, many options out there but unless you have loads of $.....you don't need a Sage, Loomis or Culcutta as starting gear
