Mainly boats or from the main pier (downtown) as shown in my pick, you need to check the reg's in respect to the restrictions/dates.

Yesterday, except from around shore, the south side had a lot of ice, it sure sunk/went fast.

The Mrs. went for a stroll along the sea wall towards the sandy beach area and she said there was millions of minnows .... good sign of a healthy lake.

Welcome back

That is one early ice off.

I stopped off at Pigeon at Mulhurst. Was hoping to launch the boat on the final day of ice fishing ...
No go. The ice was slowly piling up on shore because of the South wind. Very cool to watch it. One might be able to launch on the South side but not worth it in my opinion. Now I'll just have to wait to put up with big whites on Talbot instead. How tough it is

Tks Snap ... enjoyed you're posts & pics while I was gone, it was time to come home, 34C or 94 F in the desert was getting a bit much.

The Mrs took my camera and went out for another walk this afternoon she took a few pics of the fishes ... they look like Lake Shiners, would make great bait.

Lots of people enjoying the weekend weather out here.

Sharpen those hooks boys .... its open water season!

Well mostly correct.

There is a portion of the lake from the landfill pier to Norglenwold that is closed to fishing until July 1.

Cheers.

My daughter and her friend launched their paddle boards at Palm Bay on the north west end this afternoon "Sunday 17th" and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon seeing down in clear water to 12-15 feet without a ripple. The stories they came home with about the monster pike they saw, you should have seen their faces. I guess there were all Kinds of fish darting every where. They said they had the place to themselves, enjoy it girls while you can. D.H.

Does anyone think launching a boat this weekend on Sylvan would be feasible? Mother is coming to visit and I wanted to take her out on the boat somewhere nice. I'm pretty sure Spray and Kananaskis still have plenty of ice.

No problems at all. I have already seen folks out water skiing. Might have to launch at Sunbreaker Cove boat launch as I don't know if the Marina is open yet.

Confirmed .... the privately owned Marina across the street from me is still locked up today, however, that could change by this weekend. As an option you may wish to consider Sunbreaker which has a decent launch or one of the RR's with no launch facilities. That being said, forecast is for cooler weather and perhaps some rain.

For those of you that might want to go look at fish. The girls went back out today on their paddle boards on the NW end of the lake RR23 AKA Palm Bay Road and saw squat for fish. They said the water was stirred up and murky but on the surface things were calm. Go Figure ?? D.H.

I realize Sylvan is closed to angling until May 15...is it legal for me to take my fishing boat out for a zip?

I changed all the fluids and installed a new fish finder - obviously to avoid potential discussion with the game wardens I would take all the fishing gear out of the boat prior to hitting the water.

Am I doing anything wrong or illegal going out for a zip/ learning the new rig before its time to wet a hook?

Be careful where you launch and park your vehicles. I parked on RR20 last year(been parking there for 20 years) and I got towed and ticketed. Norglenwold is have RR20 patrolled by the Rimbey RCMP.

xring_assassin .... it was 27C this afternoon, noticed a few boats out on the lake and lots of bikines at the main beach, so how did the boat/equipment perform ... did you see any C/O's ?
