Default Red Deer river- down stream of Red Deer

Anyone been down to the river lately?
What's the water look like?
How was the fishing?
Where specifically were your best fishing spots? (lol)

I'm heading down this weekend. Wondering what to expect.
Thanks!

In case anyone is wondering, the water was relatively clear, and the fishing was pretty good.
One interesting note, the backbone rapids downstream of content bridge got washed out.
Instead of two channels through, there’s just one, and it’s not nearly as wild as it used to be.

Thank you for the info! What kind of fish were you mainly targeting?

I wouldn’t say we were targeting anything specific, just paddling down the river and throwing spoons, cranks, jigs, spinners. Mostly got goldeye, but there were the odd walleye and sauger in there to keep things interesting.

Take bug spray and bug candles if you're going in the evening. Billions of mosquitos along the shores. Never seen anything like it, you could hear the humming as soon as we got out of the truck.

They seem especially bad this year. I was up at the Little Red Deer River last week and the mosquitoes were something fierce. I haven't seen them that bad in a few years.

Yeah, I'm in Olds, and I can tell ya, this is the worst I've seen for mozzies in the decade I've lived out here. I'm originally from Manitoba, so I'm used to it, but for west central AB, this is bonkers...
