As jealous as I am it is pretty easy to see why good perch lakes don't survive. 15 perch limit is just too high.

I was just thinking, what they need to do is change the perch limit to 5 over 11 in, 10 or 15 under 11 in.

Can't edit but 10 in might even be a better size.
Then what SRD needs to do is change limits on lakes so that on fished out lakes full of stunted perch you can only keep the under 10 in sized ones.
The current form of fish management for perch is pretty much keep every nice one you catch which of course doesn't work.
The only way a person can catch nice perch anymore is to have a secret lake but eventually there aren't going to be any secret lakes anymore, then what...

Not sure exactly what you mean.
If the perch are stunted than you just need to remove as many as possible as quickly as possible. Size does not come into play.
Once a lake becomes saturated with perch...it is lost.

I know you have dealt with this a lot but I don't really believe size doesn't come into play(unless in a situation like yours where you want no perch). I think you need to leave the larger ones and remove a bunch of the smaller ones so that the larger ones can find more food and continue to grow. If you keep taking out the bigger ones you are erasing the progress some of those fish have made.
My solution of not allowing people to keep the larger perch is a way to allow those larger perch to survive long enough for a few of them to take hold. The reason I bumped my size down to 10 in is so that some perch will actually survive long enough to get over the size limit otherwise it is very possible no perch would make it over 11 in in a stunted heavily fished lake. If people can catch and keep an 11 in perch they aren't going to keep an 8 or 9 in one whereas they will keep the small ones if they can't catch or keep the big ones(trust me I have kept 5 and 6 in perch out of lakes around Edmonton...).
That said you also need natural predators in order to control small perch populations. That is why perch overrun trout ponds(no natural predators). Imo at Sundance you should give up on the trout idea, introduce northern pike and manage catch rates until you find a balance that allows for decent perch/pike fishing or your only other option is to completely kill everything in the lake and start over which doesn't seem to be financially possible.

there is several lakes within one hour of Edmonton that still produce perch over a foot and they are no secret...people just think the walleye have eaten all the perch so they dont target them.
they dont jump in the boat nor will those in the know hold your hand and show you their spots...but they are there and they do get caught and kept frequently.

So because you can go out and catch the odd keeper perch you believe the regulations are fine? The high keep rates on perch is the reason the only place you can catch the odd keeper is at large lakes where the perch are hard to find/target.
15 perch limits are ridiculous and unsustainable, how can 1 walleye a day be too much on most AB lakes but 15 perch be reasonable? It doesn't make any sense at all. Plus imo there is no reason for a 15 perch limit except when they are really small hence why my proposal allows you to keep that many small fish and a handful of larger fish...

The lower you are on the food chain the more prolific they are.
Perch lower end, walleye on the upper end.

I have no problem finding limits of keepers. but if i didnt i surely wouldnt suggest the province change regulations to make up for my shortcomings as a fisherman.

1 hour from Edmonton? I have one lake where I can catch my limit around 8 inches with the odd bigger one. That is the best I have been able to find within 1 hour.
Oh and if keeper perch are so easy to find, why don't you share info on them... You might know of a lake with decent perch but why aren't the other 10+ lakes with perch any good?

yes 1 hour from Edmonton...some even closer.
I do share spots with family and friends. Online with 10,000+ people ive never met? no thanks.
I never said they were easy to find.....ive had MANY days of drilling holes and not even marking a fish or only hitting 3" perch....that's the game....work hard and when you locate a lake that gives up some humpies I doubt you just throw the lake name around online lol

Both are too high. Only reason for a limit to be that high is so you can feed your whole family with juvenile perch...
I just find it odd how they try and conserve Pike and Walleye fisheries but don't care about 90% of perch lakes being fished out.
