Close to Sherwood?
We will be in Sherwood Park for a little holiday in mid June, a couple of quick questions if I may?
Is there somewhere close to SP where I could catch a walleye and/or a pike?
All I would require is a non resident fishing license correct?? No guides no hosts type things to know about??

Actually shore fishing the NSR is your best bet for walleye....and some pike. Added benefit to hammer some Goldeye, suckers, and sturgeon....you can't keep the walleye but very few lakes where you can around here anyhow without draw tags.
Just need a nonresident license and there are lots of guys here who fish the NSR.

Drive from Sherwood Park to Fort Saskatchewan. Find the river then just start walking. The fish will be in the deep holes.

Is there a preferred way to fish the nsr? just thinking I'd like to go fishing with my son, those species aren't around where I live.

Depending on the flow....chuck a drop shot or sturgeon slider rig with 3-5oz of weight and bait on the single hook (minnow or worm) just let it sit....

I'd be willing to show you a good spot 5 minutes away, even show you some techniques.

Thanks for the offer I'll keep it in mind. I did a lot of bar fishing the rivers here as a kid, and have worked rivers for steelhead, trout and grayling. Just so you know I'm not a complete greenhorn..:-)...never really caught walleye or pike though .

Exactly! And yes as long as they are dead....minnows can be used in the NSR. So can live worms.

Don't mess around do it right and go with a guy who has a jetboat. Then you can cover lots of water fast not to mention a great boat ride with lots of scenery. Probably cost 5 to 6 hundred a day but well worth every penny

Don't think a guided trip is what he's asking for here...
