Default Fishing in Lake Winagami

So after look at the regs, I have a question. The general regs say that the daily limit is 3 walleye, but then in the Lake/River specific section it says the limit is one walleye over 55cm. I just want to make sure that I interpreted this correctly. To me this means that I have the 3 daily limit still, but I can only have one walleye over 55cms. Is this correct? Thanks for your time.

It means you can only keep 1 walleye over 55 cms at Winagami.

To properly understand the regs you first look for the specific lake/river. If it is not in the book then you look at the area regs(ES1, PP2, NB4 etc). The possession limits at the beginning of the book sometimes match the lake/area but you should never refer to them when looking up limits. Case in point NB2 has a stipulation that lakes not listed you can keep 3 walleye over 50 cm but the general possession limits in beginning of book have no size restrictions.

Rav is correct - but here's maybe an easier way to explain it .....

If the lake IS SPECIFICALLY listed in the regulations for a size or quantity limit - you go by what it says there.

If the lake is NOT listed SPECIFICALLY - you go by the province wide possession limits.

That is not true EZM and that is why I specifically made the point to mention each area's regulations.

Each zone has its own limits for unlisted waters, they are found at the beginning of each zones regs.

For example 2016 ES1

Quote:
C. For other ES2 Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds not included under
(A) or (B) and for fish species not mentioned at a listed lake.
l Open all year – Trout limit 5; Walleye limit 3 over 50 cm; Pike limit 3
[no size limit]; Perch limit 15; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm;
Burbot limit 10; Bait, except bait fish, allowed.
vs 2016 PP2

Quote:
C. For other PP2 Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds not included under
(A) or (B) and for fish species not mentioned at a listed lake.
l Open all year – Walleye limit 3 over 50 cm; Pike limit 3 over 63 cm;
Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 2 (Burbot
limit 0 - Feb. 1 to Mar. 31); (where present, Trout limit 5;
Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm); Bait allowed.
Note the difference on size limits on pike, burbot limits and also difference in bait allowances.

The general possession limits should only ever be used in the very rare situation where you catch a species in a waterbody that is not specified either under that waterbody or its area. The only example of this I can think of is the guys catching lake trout in the Athabasca river by Fort McMurray.
