Default Cheap, fast. 7mm-08 load...

looking for a less expensive, lighter and faster load for my 7mm-08 for coyote and the like....currently I just have 140 gr TSX chugging along at about 2650

I am wondering what is the lightest bullet you guys are loading in the 7mm-08's for such...

Thanks

Lots of cheap 7mm bullets out there. I use to load 120 hornady hollow points in my .280 going pretty darn quick.I don't quite remember how fast cause it was a while ago. Hornady, Sierra and Winchester all make some cheap little bullets in 7mm. I would try a 120 gr sierra spt , loaded at the top end of the scale you should get 3000fps pretty easy.My manual list several loads in the 3100 fps range. Sierras are usually pretty darn accurate as well. Hornady has 5 offerings in 120 gr bullets, maybe try the the V-max or the hollw point, again from what i see in the manual 3000 fps should be achievable. Pm me if you want load details, I have both Sierra and Hornady manuals.

The 120 gr ballistic tip works very well in the 7mm-08.It has a very thick jacket that holds together much better than most people would think.

My cheapest (and oddly enough, most accurate) load for 7mm-08 is 140gr sierra pruhunter, with 42 grains of varget (never chrony'd but it should be about 2800 fps based on hodgdon's info). I use it as a practice/deer/pest load, and use TSX's for bigger critters.

I have shot the 120gr. Hornady HP with Varget with great results. I am upwards of 3000fps with no trouble and very good accuracy.

I would think the 120gr. 7mm Vmax would work well also.

If you want to save hides on the 'yotes you shoot, this may not be a good combo though.

Good luck, Eric
