Default Axle to Axle Length

Are there any advantages to longer axle to axle?
Is a longer axle to axle a smother draw?

a longer axle to axle will give you more stability. comes with an increase in weight as well which also helps stability, especially in the wind.

more longer draws a longer axle to axle is also required to reduce nock pinch.

Draw cycle feel is more of a function of the cam design.

For most hunting purposes, no.

Anything shorter than 28 is harder to tune, creates nock pinch, is less stable

Anything longer than 33 tends to get in the way in many common situations, and you see diminishing returns with regards to stability/accuracy.

There is a point where target archery accuracy theory and gear start interfering with the maneuverability needed while hunting.

Personally I shoot my 35" A/A 6.5" brace height compound under mountain hunting conditions much better than I shot my previous two compounds, one 32" A/A and the other 30" A/A, both with 7" brace height. With the short bows I had several arrows not "hit behind the pin" in the mountains....no issue on flat ground though Not the case with the longer bow. All bows were/are 29-1/4" draw length, 65# peak weight. YMMV

The length of your axle to axle can affect your anchoring points. Longer draw lengths tend to anchor better on a longer ATA bow as the string angle isn’t as severe.

For me this is one of the most important parts when purchasing a new bow.

This is true for me.

Previous bow was 30" ATA, 7" brace and 29" draw. My anchor point that felt right wouldnt allow me to touch the string with my nose without cranking my neck over and then id be looking sideways out of my eyes.

New bow is 33" ATA and 6 3/8" at 29.5" draw and now with the same anchor point, i can touch my nose to the string while looking more forward. I shoot better groups at 80yds than I did at 60yds previously.
