Default lynx snares

Hey guys I am about to buy some snares for lynx and wanted to know what you prefer? I am thinning 5 feet of 1x16" and 1x19 wire. What lock is best for less freeze ups? Micro?

When caught by the neck lynx expire very quickly in a snare, thus the type of snare cable is not of great importance. 1/16th 7X7 cable is fine and the general standard for cats. IMO the important factor with lynx snares is loop size and height set above the ground level. I find a 6-7” loop set 10-12” above the ground level ideal. With larger loops set low you will often have lynx jump or walk through the snare and at times get hip caught. Although most any non relaxing lock will work for lynx the micro lock is great as they have no moving parts to freeze up.

Nube allot cheaper to make them yourself. And simple too. I don't like the 7x7 wire personally as I find it doesn't hold a good loop for me anyway!

1x19 will definitely hold a better loop.

I have only used 1/16 or 5/64 1x19 cable for Lynx.
And I build my own locks out of hay wire.

Lynx aren't hard to hold and they do die quickly in a snare.
I learned that a light cable for sensitivity and the ability to hold a loop until triggered are key to a good Lynx snare.

It helps a lot if the cable can be trained to close at the slightest touch.
We found aircraft cable too limp for our purposes.

I build all of my own snares, for everything from wolf down to squirrel.

Load your 7X7 cable and it will form a nice round lynx size loop. 1X19 cable is definitly better at forming and holding large round loops for coyote and wolves.

There is a taxidermist he advertises on this sight at the top of the bar Art of Taxidermy. I was chatting with him he is looking for lynx that are whole and frozen not skinned for auction. Not sure what he pays or compensate for the lynx but he would like some for full mounts. If you get one or have one give him a call.

I like the 7x7 wire but only make 4 foot snares. They hang way better being 4 ft vs 5 ft . Tie with doubled # 14 wire.
