Default Crossbow recommendation.

Hi guys
Looking to draw on some experience from you all. A couple years ago I blew out my 3rd disk in my neck and had a stroke.
Since then I haven't tried my bow out, well about a month ago I tried to draw my bow, no dice, felt like a lightning bold went down my back and threw my arms.
So I thought I would try my wifes bow(lighter poundage) same problem.
Even tryed my old recurve. Same problem.
I have spoken to my Doctor, and have another appt on wednesday. He is going to fill out my form for a crossbow.
Question is this, after a lifetime of bow hunting, I don't have a clue about crossbows. Never even held one.
What to look for?
What to avoid?
Budget is not a issue, just would rather buy once, cry once type of thing.

Thanks

Default Tenpoint

I highly recommend TenPoint. I bought mine around 2005 and have been loving it ever since. Not the cheapest option, but well worth the investment!

I am a paraplegic, so the drawing system was super important to me. Back then I did a lot of looking around and the ACU-DRAW system on the TenPoint was second to none. It is built right into the stock of the crossbow. It has a hand crank that only has about 5 pounds of resistance when you crank the string back. They also offered a different version, I believe it was called the ACU-DRAW 50, if memory serves me correct. It was more of a traditional cocking device with ropes and handles. I wouldn't recommend that type for you though, as it would likely still cause you pain when you pulled it back.

Keep in mind, my research took place around 15 years ago and their technology has come along way since then. A lot of new features and the speeds and compactness that they offer now are incredible. I believe my crossbow (Pro Elite) shoots around 330 feet per second. I just took a quick peak at their website and it shows one shooting over 500 fps!

The accuracy is also incredible! I have always said that if I miss, it is my fault and not the crossbow's. You have to aim at a different spot on the target every time or you will be buy a lot of arrows!

I got mine with the monopod included and for me it helps a lot. Being paralyzed, I don't have use of most of my core muscles, so I lean on the monopod quite a bit. It really helps with the accuracy as well.

I have nothing but great things to say about Tenpoint!

Default Double up

I never knew there was a double barreled crossbow? Pretty neat if it can remain accurate?

I also would recommend going into a store that sells these bows and shoulder them, see what fits, what you like about it and it matches your style of hunting.
Remember sitting in a blind etc the limbs are horizontal in which you will have to take that into consideration.

Good luck.

Excalibur is the best in the business.
Simple, easy to work on yourself (no bow press required), reliable, incredibly accurate and powerful.

And, they come with the best warranty in the business bar none.
Never had to use that, but nice to know it is there.

Had 4 of their bows so far, and never even a single issue.

Cheers,
Nog

I’ve got a Excalibur 440 Bulldog. Very powerful and extremely accurate.

I did have an issue with mine when one of the limbs became delaminated at the worse possible time. I had to then watch a small bull moose walk at 30 yards. Not a big deal but kind of sucked after 4 days of trying to get close to one and buggering up a couple previous stalks on small bulls myself.

I contacted Excalibur and after sending them some pics of the delaminated limb they sent me a new matching set. It sounded like they had issues with one run of limbs but had corrected the issue.

Stuff happens and the true test is what a company does when their product fails. I’d buy an Excalibur again in a heartbeat.

Excalibur Asssasin TD 400 or 420. Both are current models with tool-less takedown capability and an integrated crank.

Top of the line and top notch bows that you can work on yourself, never needing a press or a pro-shop to change a string or work on.

I've also owned numerous Excalibur Crossbows and use two of them regularly now.
