Default Fairmont Hot Springs area fishing?

Staying in the area for the week, wondering if anyone has some suggestions on where to try?

I brought some assorted gear, fly and cast.

Thanks in advance

If you’re willing to drive, head south of canal flats, then east up the lussier/whiteswan road. Whiteswan has good fishing, but you essentially need a boat to access it. If you continue up the white river road past the campground, there is some really good fly fishing on the white river

Whiteswan is pretty great, I’ve been that way but I agree about the access. We’ll bring the boat next year and make a day out of it, just not enough time this trip. I’ll have to check out the river beyond the lake, that’ll be new to me.

Unfortunately, all the rivers/streams in the area are classified and under the quota system.

What does that mean? No fishing?

If I wanted to pull off the side of the road and do a little fishing along the Columbia, I can’t?

Oddly enough, I don’t believe the Columbia is classified water. But always check the regs yourself. But most others are CW. So you could not just pull over and wet a line in those ones.

I mostly just fish the Columbia around Fairmont, section 4-26 on the regs map, no crazy rules stick out. I just scanned over a few parts, hopefully didn’t miss something.

White River is classified, Columbia isn't.

Correct. And you can still fish classified water, just have to spend more money lol

Could also head up the west side of the slopes near canal flats and fish Findlay creek and whitetail lake

Find the Lussier, fished it a few years back and it wasn't classified then.

Alces Lake just before whiteswan is a fly fishing only lake but be aware in BC you cannot use a strike indicator in a flyfishing only lake,

and you can use a dropper fly (multiple hook) in any water

Caught some beautiful fish there it is one of my favorite spots.

Actually, the use of an indicator is allowed, the only water body here in the Kootenays that you can't use an indicator of any type is the St. Mary's River. Also dropper (multiple hook) rigs are NOT allowed in any water here.

Well. I haven't even pulled out the fly rod, the fish are staying deep, the weather is hot.
