Default Saber toothed Beaver

I am wondering if there are any AO trappers in the High Level area.

There was a beaver skull on display at the F&W office in town and I'm wondering if it's still there.

I snared that beaver back around 1990 and showed it to a few folks cause it had one bottom tooth that curled up over it's head and was touching one ear, looked like a saber tooth.
F&W saw it and wanted to display it so I let them have it.

Interesting . I'm wondering if there was'nt some kind of deformaty in the jaw somewhere.
As a Beavers teeth grow very fast and never stop growing, they also wear very fast. It sounds like one side of the jaw was misaligned and that tooth failed to to make contact when it was knawing. It would only take a short time for that tooth to grow to the point it was useless for knawing and kept growing from there. I've heard of them growing into thier skull.

To me it looked like a piece of wood had become lodged between the lower teeth forcing them apart in such a way as to cause one to miss it's opposing tooth entirely and the other only half engage the opposing tooth.

The beaver was an older individual, as I recall, don't quote me on this, the hide measured 66 inches.
But when I caught it mid winter, when it should have been happy and healthy it was a bag of bones.
It was by far the hardest hide to flesh I have ever encountered.

There was no indication of disease or other injuries.

Yes it is.
I wasn't sure it was still there so I asked hunter3006 to check. It is still there as you can see.

Thank you hunter, I owe you one.

I wonder why the top one didn’t continue growing??? It also didn’t have an opposing tooth to wear on.

Cause it’s a Bever tooth pulled out an inserted back in backwards only a little way.

Yeash.... go read post 3.

Besides the color of the whole tooth is wrong if it was just simply faked as you say. The part of it in the jaw would still would be white, not what you see here.

Cool find and good on you keg for donating it for others to see.
