Is the season over?
Forum seems to be pretty quiet lately.
I was hoping to still get out a few times before the end of the season. Fished the Crow for a few hours yesterday and did not get a bite, nothing at all. First time skunked in awhile. Anyone else been out lately and how have you done?

Was out on the weekend around the oldman and to my surprise they were still rising. We caught a couple on the hop and the drop.

season isn't over until the rivers close. You can even catch some fish on a midge hatch in the winter months on the bow

Still catch risers on BWO, still lots of double digit temp days left.

It slows down in mid-February.

What flies were you using? What sizes? Colours? Lines?
Insect imitations usually need to be smaller as the season progresses, however providing a big meal opportunity can sometimes do the trick. Big brown rubber leg stones were producing well last week. Moderate sized buggers in the lakes are a good bet. Mayfly nymphs and chironomids in the 16-22 range, or smaller might be required. Water boatmen can also be an important fly in the fall.
I wouldn't be using dries unless there was obvious surface feeding activity or as an indicator for suspending a small nymph in shallower water.

What? Over? Not in Calgary. The only good thing about the heinous southern Albertan Foehn winds is a 6wt on the Bow River. I have had 3x as many double-digit days in the winter than I have in the summer. Sure, you can certainly pad the numbers with whitefish, but winter whitefish fight (at least) as hard as the winter trout.
The best thing about whitefish...when you gently release them, they will often only swim a short distance away, staying close for a while before gently swimming away. I know that many people thing that they are kind of ugly, but they brilliantly engineered for fast, cold water. Apparently, they are quite tasty---I do not eat the fish living in the Bow. Actually, I have caught whitefish my whole life (well, I caught my first whitefish at 10 years old, but that is still 29yrs of catching whitefish) but I have never eaten one.

Only a few weeks left so I decided yesterday to explore some new water. Hit the Carbondale river first then the South Castle. All nice sized healthy cutthroat. Caught the first few on nymphs, but later when on the castle I noticed one fish wanting to rise. Tried a BWO and nothing then an elk hair caddis and about two seconds after it hit the water bang. Biggest one of the day. Will definitely hit the area again before the end of Oct.

Nope, not yet! Spent the Thanksgiving weekend hunting bows and brookies from my Kayak in the Kootenays. Founds plenty of both and some good sized ones! Lighting kind of sucked on the pic with the brookie, but my largest one of the season.

The last month was quite slow during the day, hardly any action before dusk when it got nice and exciting.
But i had a day off on monday and wow, one of the best days of the season! There was a nice warm wind and as soon as i reached this west slope creek i saw fish in the shallow, which i hadn't seen for weeks. In 7 hours i got over 50 fish, majority of medium size brookies with some nice ones but also my best cutthroat this year (16 inches in this small creek is massive!). Before dusk they all went for a montana nymph as a dropper, almost as soon as it hit the water so maybe it worked as a boatman?
Season sure ain't over, can't wait for next weekend!

Anybody here fished the crow since the first? Thinking of hitting there for a few hours tomorrow since the forecast is for +2 (as long as the wind isn't too bad).
