Default Who pays for Harry and Meghan?

From The Guardian regarding security for Harry and Meghan: If British taxpayers are no longer required to pay, one option is for Canadian taxpayers to bear the burden. This is not likely to go down well. Another is for the couple to pay for themselves, through money provided by the Prince of Wales.

I believe that there is no way that our taxes should go to support these multi-millionaire, entitled celebrities. Is there any reason to expect that Canada will have to bear the expense, even with our present Prime Minister?

I hope not. Maybe they will move to the USA.

I’d think they are welcome to get a job just like anyone else.
Given their connections I would think they will be fine.

If they want to be normal (and I can sure understand why being born a royal is a curse in some ways) this is their chance.

I have no problem with my tax dollars going to pay for their security or anything else they may need.

When I think of all the $Billions just flushed down the toilet by the Feds it would not bother me in the least.

Harry could be our next Governor General. Cut off all of the 'allowances' currently going to pervious Governor Generals, and it would cover security costs, and give him an appropriate job to which he's well qualified. *Not like the line of politically appointed bimbos we've had to endure.

They should not be granted Canadian citizenship without jobs, and not one penny of taxpayer money should got to these people.

the radio i have on in the garage reported today that a british tabloid has reported that canada has already agreed to cover the costs . the reporter said calls to the prime ministers office for conformation were answered with " no comment". the same reported also said the tim hortons rep who offered the two royals free coffee for ever if they moved to canada has come under fire . paying employees minimum, wage and offering multimillionaires free coffee .
its a mess no matter how you slice it and i dont see it ending well for the common worker (taxpayer )in canada .

So I wonder why anyone would believe that those young people who want off the public teat in England would want to go on it in Canada.I think these kids are anything but stupid. I also think they will spend zero time on Jobopolis.

It’s not them I’m concerned about. It’s our federal Government. They will throw our money at them in one way or another, whether they ask for it or not.

Personally I think Canada needs to ditch this whole monarchy thing.

Why do people believe we need to pay for them? They have money.

The Daily Mail, which is basically a British Tabloid site, published a fake story of JT offering to pay for their security but, there hasn't been any confirmation yet whether Canada is required to do so. If they live here part time, they aren't here on official business of the monarchy, therefore, they don't qualify for the International Protected Persons program.

If they only plan to live here part-time, they don't need to apply for citizenship. There's a lot of people who live in Canada part-time, if they're here for 6 months or less, no citizenship required.

Looks like they have updated their website regarding this issue. They will no longer fit the description of Internationally Protected Persons, as they will not be here in any official capacity.

I know you said that as a joke but Harry does in fact get a 2 million +/- allowance and will continue to receive it. He has and will continue to help pay for the multi-million dollar renovation to the cottage that everyone in talking about.

They brought a mansion in Vancouver next to chip Wilson’s. So probably free security from their neighbors..

Because Trudeau sees himself as a friend and friends of the liberal hierarchy get taken care of...usually under the table or via side channels with tax payer money.

Let Horgan pick up the tab, maybe he can chop wood for them to heat their mansion.

Yes- I am fully aware of that, however that doesn’t stop them from applying. Wait and see. My prediction is they will be seeking dual citizenship.

We would be much better off protecting them. If something happens to them Trudeau will be writing cheques that will carry the monarchy into the next century. That's on top of the tearful public speeches we will have to endure.

What I find funny is how so many whine and complain about the monarchy being outdated and should be abolished...and here are two willing to do leave the monarchy (and have stated they are willing to pay their own way)...and people whine and complain.
Ya just can't win for losing
