AR15 80% Lowers are now PROHIBITIED
RCMP firearms lab has once again re-done an interpretation of the law and prohibited 80% lowers because the might be machined in an M16 receiver.
In the name of public safety, lets ban a chunk of metal. No barrel or trigger assembly, just a hunk of aluminum.
When will the police state end? The RCMP should not make laws AND enforce them.
I will be writing to my MP and Public Safety.

No surprise to me... the RCMP have been unaccountable and out of control for a long, long time now.

Well now we're all safe from the epidemic of crime that wasn't happening in the first place.
Imagine if the RCMP firearms lab just stuck to matching bullets from murder victims the the firearms they came from, wouldn't that be lovely? Flipping marionettes that they are to the Liberals pulling their budgetary strings.

Isn't that what the RCMP excels at ?

Wierd???
I just checked online and the 80% lowers are as expensive or more expensive then a completed and registered lower. What kind of idiot would pay just as much or more for a product that isn't finished. His only legal option would be then to bring the 80% lower to licensed firearms manufacturer and pay to have the machining process completed and then the lower registered. Based on this video the shop fees wouldn't be that high given the work necessary, but still seems like a waste of money.

Until now it was completely legal to own and completely finish an %80 lower. I have seen one that had been finished and licenced legaly. The legal steps as per the governments website and multiple phone calls is it has to be finished and then called in with the serial number and pictures. Few weeks later you get a certificate for your own home made lower.

Yup, you need jigs and proper tooling to do it right, why bother ? Nice paper weight though.

They just don't get it. There fear mongoring over guns is driving the black market, theft over the edge. On the bright side, it's also driving people into the gun shops to buy, buy, buy

By my count, that's 996 of the required 1000 cuts. Next up: ARs, hand guns, all semi autos, all guns. Wonder how long it'll take to get to 997...?

That is what happens when the RCMP makes and interprets the laws. We are well on the way to becoming a police state.

x2 and doubly disturbing in the randomness and lack of any recourse to their actions. Today your piece of aluminum forging, tomorrow your Phillips screw driver, carrying one in Britain will run you afoul of the law.

Uh... The polymer80 kits are polymer and they come with jigs and the bits, you can use a hand drill and dremel and/or a drill press and you can complete them quiet easily. Not all 80% kits are metal.

I wonder how many RCMP officers even know what an 80% lower is? This is a technicality that serves to attack firearms owners only.

I've seen a few of the 80% lowers. Guy at work showed me a video of someone finishing it with a router with a endmill in it. The machining work is not hard, any machinist could do it. I'm guess the tough part would be obtaining the proper drawings.

Yep. Ditto. (although I already got the handgun(s)_)
This has NOTHING to do with crime or crime prevention. They're just harassing gun owners. That's it.

There are many CAD drawings available online, not only for ARs either.
I would expect they will be banning blocks of 7075 aluminum soon as they can be made into a lower as well. Personal milling machines and lathes should also be registered and kept locked up, with the tooling in a separate, locked cabinet.

Its funny how they think banning one means of making a lower will stop people from getting them. www.theflatspot.net/ar-15-receiver-flat.html

So we go to 79% lowers. Or print a 100% one on a 3D printer.
