Default Looking forward to work party for Sherwood Park Fish and Game

Was out at the Sherwood Park Fish and Game archery range today and noticed signs on the archery 3D course for 21 new target lanes!! Notice on board said work party for 9AM Saturday to make these new lanes and put out archery targets. Supposed to bring our bows so we can test the new course after. Can't wait, looks like will be good course.

I don't know if I can make it on such short notice but thank you for sharing it here.
Any suggestions on what to bring? Anyone know what exactly will be going on?
I'm assuming just showing up with work clothes and gloves, a lunch, and willingness to work would go a long way

Clearing the trails and shooting lanes and setting up targets on the 3d course.

Default clean up

How's that going in this wind? Good job to anybody that made it out to help with that, going to be a tough day out there.

Went well! We set up some nice shots, only one scary tree but we got it down.

We had a great day and set up some good shots. Shooting stakes are not put out, shoot where you are comfortable or where you can hit the target. This course is a big improvement on what was setup the past couple years. Have fun and please do not alter the course, we tried to set things up to simulate hunting shot scenarios. Here is a few pictures.

Bedded doe

Bedded Elk

Narrow window cobra

Across the wetland Bison

Don't miss left standing bear.

Oh....and this cannot be stressed enough!

NO BROAD HEADS

These targets are not designed to be shot with broadheads nor can they sustain being shot repeatedly with broad heads. I spoke with the president yesterday and they have no issue revoking memberships of those who do not follow this simple rule. Please respect the targets and the range.

There are distinct "broad head" marks in the target butts at the static range as well....these target are not for broad heads either!

Sherwood Park Fish and Game Archery Director would like to thank all those that participated in the work party Saturday. You did a great job and the course looks fantastic! For those of us that got to put the FIRST HOLES in the targets, it felt great! Thanks to Lefty for the pictures of the targets. If you're not a member yet, please join and take part in the ABA style hunting shoot on Sunday, May 15th.

I got out tonight to test them myself. Great course, lots of fun shots. Not sure if the Cold 4 deg C weather had something to do with it but that Bison is way out there! Here is a couple more pics of the brand new targets.

Lol, the cold weather took the target some time to heal. Shot it on the way up and the way back

At this point, we are having a members only shoot due to insurance. The executive are looking into the possibilities of opening it up but not for the first shoot. General membership is $55. a year which allows you to use all facilities, including archery but none of the gun ranges.

If you look at it this way, $55 individual or $70 family....gets you a general
Membership at the SPFGA. So you can camp, shoot archery, and use the kids only fish pond all year round.

One 3d shoot for a family costs over the $70. There is one course with 21 brand new targets set up with challenging shots from 10ish to 50ish yards. I personally think it is great value.

I can see in the future the archery side of the club growing and I think it would be great to open up any 3d shoots held to the public.

It's about 30 minutes (going the back way). Google Sherwood Park Fish and Game and there is membership info on the website.
