Default 30 trail cams and 9 salt blocks stolen.

This thread is not intended to incite conversation in whether we need wild horses or not. It's about the theft.

Looks like a couple skidooers made off with 30 trail cams and 9 salt blocks that were monitoring the wild horses in William's Creek Valley in the Sundre area. 6K worth of cams stolen this time. This society mentions having 8K worth of cams stolen since September, 2021.

Careful who you are buying from used Gardepro A3s Trail Game Cameras that are green and black in colour. Another 10 Gardepro A3s Trail Game Cameras were stolen in 2021 in the same area.

That makes 40 cams stolen.

There is a 10K reward for anyone identifying the skidooing thieves. There's a couple pics of the sledders.

Why could you not have just deleted the posts that were "off track", rather than any other info that may have led to the thieves being caught..???...

Did I miss something? Not sure what 'off track' posts you are refering to Sourdough.

Jungleboy, If you think this thread should be removed because it could compromise investigations somehow please remove it. I thought the fact of a reward is being offered makes this sort of a public thing worth mentioning.

SCUMBAGS!

Makes my blood boil.

Thanks for posting this, the best thing you can do is get the word out about exactly what was stolen and what to be on the lookout for.

They gota sell them at some point.

Looks like they caught the fellow! On the "Help Alberta Wildies" FB page they said they lost another 52 camera's March 6th, and just reported that they Charged a guy. Says in total they lost 143 camera's.

Link doesn’t work. I’m not sure what would possess someone to steal that many cameras but isn’t this the same group that would rather see the wild horses starve to death rather than being caught. And are these the same horses that have eaten all the grass leaving nothing for the elk and deer.

They had so many cameras out there, a guy would be afraid to have a crap, without putting on a public performance. These are the same people who didn't mind doing illegal activity when it interfered with Feral horse capture a few years ago. The RCMP had to restrain them, no sympathy from this cowboy. Strong feelings on this issue, thinking that was the motivation here.

I don't condone theft. The thief should face the consequences of the law.

Don't have any sympathy for the 'victim' however due to their horribly misguided views on the feral horse problem.

Last week in BC someone shot 17 feral horses and there is a huge outcry over it. At least the news got it right that they are feral and not 'wild'.

Um don't want to start a flame war...
CBC says that the herd was of "cultural significance" to the Skeetchestn band.

Horses only came to Western Canada in about 1730, about the same time as the other colonisers...

Anthropologists refer to it as the "pedestrian era"

Ya and I would guess that they were probably shot by some farmer that got sick of them getting into there property or bales.

I dont get your post in regard to OP theft thread. Someone stole something turns into someone killed something? Forgive me I am getting old. Thief is stealing cams, trying to save or kill horses? Or unrelated?

This feral horse group is a joke but regardless of that, theft is wrong but that’s the game you play on public land. This horse group has created a lot of enemies for themselves. Maybe CBC will sponsor you. What I don’t get is how is this “group” allowed to put salt blocks all over crown land with camera traps in the name of “feral horse” monitoring? Can I put a camera on the top of a mountain in bighorn sheep country and say I’m looking for feral horses and get away with it?

You can put salt blocks out on top of the mountain for sheep or in the forest for any species you like. You can put cams on them too you just can’t hunt over them. It’s strange laws when you can’t hunt over bait over concerns of CWD but it’s ok if you don’t pack a weapon

My opinion the theft is wrong but the feral horses also don’t belong either. Crow land or not doesn’t give anyone rights to take something that doesn’t belong to them

Crown land. They can stuff those cameras where the sun don't shine.

I cant open the FB thread and can't find it on the news. Do they name the suspect or say if he/she was just a common thief or if he/she had an agenda?

Yes they named the guy on the face book thread and it almost sounded like there was a long-standing fude between him and HAWS.

Yes, they did name the suspect. Lonnie Roth from the Mayerthorpe area. He use to live around Sundre. Grizz may know him. Apparently he had a hate on for glover and HAWS.

I heard they were about to pick up the other guy. There is a name floating around the gossip crowd but nothing concrete. Apparently the second guy had his mug shots all over the recovered cameras.

Only Roth that springs to mind is a guy from Westward Ho, I did some work for years ago, worked as a bear outfitter up north ? HAWS and their gang treat Williams creek like they own it, not hard to make enemies. I see on their Facebook page they dragged some dead horse away rather than allow the local trapper to use it as wolf bait. Google found me this guy.

They're Feral Horses not Wild Horses.

Enjoying themselves while remaining ignorant of the problems these feral animals cause to the environment.

I guess that as long as you are enjoying some fantasy.... why give a damn.
