Definitely a weird feeling. My kids jumped up and wondered what was going on. I never put two and two together initially.

Hope I don’t feel it again. Was working in Reno area today. There was a smaller event 6 days ago there.

I knew people around here have felt earthquakes before but those happened far away, and I never felt any of them.

I didn't think they could happen here. Now I learn that this not the first that happened here, there have been several others.

Tonight I don't feel as safe here as I once did.

Defiantly felt near Slave Lake. My boy was walking down the stairs and all of a sudden the entire house started shaking. It took a few seconds to realize it wasn’t him falling down the stairs, it was probably a legit earthquake.

Funny thing I was in Dominican when Haiti had their huge one. I never felt a thing. First one I’ve ever felt.

The one I felt in 2001 was from fsj, glass of water on the table swayed for five minutes after.

5.3 earthquake. Was second largest earthquake recorded on Earth today. 5.5 in South Pacific Ocean. Peace River ranks up there with Hawaii, Japan, Mexico, Mew Zealand, and California. Need to make a sign. From Reno to —————— .

Brought to you by your local fracking operation…

We get the random quake where I live. Been watching tv and watched things go swaying all over the house. They seem to come in swarms where you’ll have a few then nothing. Strongest one in the area was way before my time but was a 7.2 in 1959.

Felt it all the way over in Conklin. Office trailer was shaking pretty good. Day shift thought someone was jacking the trailer up I thought he was bouncing his leg. Didn’t think anything of it until I seen this thread. Timing matches up

Don’t make stuff up. Wells in the area have a TVD of 700m. Doubt a frac at that depth is causing a quake 10km below surface. Half length of the frac wouldn’t be more than a couple hundred meters if that.

I was waiting for that accusation to pop up as well... Literally just said it to the wife while laying in bed, after she browsed FaceTube and read about the earthquake(s)...

Didnt feel the first one at work (wife and kids did at home) but the one at 5:55pm-wow. I just got home and was helping dish up supper. Cabinet doors shaking, table rattling on the floor, windows- actually entire house shaking, the liquid in the crock pot from the roast was splashing up the sides. Lasted maybe 20-30 seconds. Could tell there were a few small after shock waves a few minutes after as the crock pot liquid was moving slightly. CRAZY

My brother inlaw in Edmonton text me soon after and said he felt it in the city centre area.

And the animals and critters went about there normal lives. Earth shakes! Blame it on Global warming. Maybe the Lib's can find a way to tax it and send millions of our tax dollars to nothing that happened.

Yup, felt it here in Edm but didn't think it was an earthquake. They're still doing work on the transit bridge and tunnel underneath us, figured it was that.

What's the average TD on the wells in that area?

That was my first reaction when I started receiving texts about it.

Even earlier this month, there were news articles about this sort of thing:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...ium%3Dsharebar

And it sure got some earthquake-watchers excited:

Obviously you missed the sarcasm… was surprised my comment was the first to bring it up.

Exactly, the quake at 10 km, or 10 000 m, or 6.2 miles is way into the granite basement, way below any oil and gas bearing rock.

If I remember right the oil and gas bearing rock ends and the granite basement starts around 3000 m deep in that area.

There has been some seismic activity around Fox Creek lately that may be frac related.

Earthquakes Canada show depths from 5 km to 2 km for this event.

https://earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca/index-en.php

So maybe the theory oilfield activity played a part is not as far fetched as some think.
