Has anyone seen one yet? Last year the first one in the yard was March 27th.

Oh ya, nothing like the screech of the Blue Jay. If paying attention we will see at least two a day. They been showing up for awhile. Mid Feb. at least

Bluebirds and Blue Jays are not the same thing...

What varieties of Bluebirds are you guys seeing? I know Eastern and Western Bluebirds do venture into Alberta, but I have only seen Mountain Bluebirds around here.

Have never seen a Western Bluebird here. Only the Mountain.

I put this as a repy in the Martin thread, but figured it was appropriate here as well.

We have 24 houses spread around the property. Last year had two nesting pair of bluebirds and 12 pair of tree swallows (boxes are set out in pairs so if one has a bluebird the other can have a swallow as they will not fight each other for the territory). Years back we were up to 8 nesting pair (we had 28 birds congregated in the yard just before fall migration that year) and then a severe April snowstorm the next spring killed every last bluebird. Took 5 years before we saw one in the yard again. I am hoping for 3 pair this year - slow rebuild.
